This was on a UT board regarding A Gilbert:

quote:

Chuck Manziel on Bill King Show this morning says it would be Bama if signing day was today. Vols gonna have to prove something on the field to get this one. Chuck based this on talking to AG yesterday.

Also read that their 247 site said if was today they would CB him to UA.

FWIW, UGA insiders have been hinting that he's trending away for a little while now. Few things given as possibilities why:
1) being sold on more of a flex/hybrid role elsewhere - more confidence in getting targets
2) doesn't want to play with DW? not sure why personally as he seems like easily the bigger receiving threat

If y'all land him, congrats. Kid is an elite athlete. I think the locker room culture in Tuscaloosa might be methodical enough to get him to loosen up on some of the "I'm a WR not a TE" stuff if that chatter is even accurate.

------

Unrelated, but since you guys are probably the most plugged in recruiting group from another school on here, have y'all heard anything about a retroactive adjustment to the 25 cap? Saw a post on another dawg board from a good poster that seems to think the schools have gotten some communication that due to the transfer portal, it's likely to be lifted or adjusted to some degree... this was the rough quote (tried to eliminate the more UGA specific stuff that y'all don't care about ):

quote:

have heard that there is chatter schools have been communicated with and believe the 25 limit will be lifted and retroactively back counted. I don’t have any additional info on that. All I can definitively say is we take 23 minimum. My gut says it’ll be 25 with 27 total (blue shirt + non-IC if we land Joseph).

I haven't heard about that. But, I could see the NCAA maybe tweeking the rules to let schools replace departed tranfsers with inbound transfers without the replacements having to count against the 25 limit.

A fundamental intent of the NCAA Bylaws is to promote kids getting their degrees, and that approach would probably reduce the number of kids in the portal ending up without a new home. It would also help schools recover quicker from a large exodus.

I have read that the NCAA is going to tighten up on granting waivers for undergrad transfers having to sit out a year. I don't know when that's supposed to start, but it doesn't appear to have started yet.

Yeah... i have no idea what the mechanism/adjustment might look like, but definitely seems like something needs to give. Dunno if y'all saw the Les Miles/Jeff Long complaints about where Kansas is at scholarship wise, but suffice it to say, they're 2-3 years from having an 85 man recruited roster.

I saw the comments about tightening up the waiver process, but we just saw Steele transfer from UF, pick a school, change his mind and move again, and he got his waiver approved. The NCAA's only ability to be consistent is its inconsistency.

I also wish I could have a signature specifically for this board referencing the obligatory downvote that I'll get regardless of how innocuous the comment. Pretty sure I could say Alabama will have a class with a 335 composite rating and name the dudes and get downvotes here. Fortunately I don't care, I just think it's funny. Same when our posters do the same to Saint in our thread.

Appreciate the feedback. If y'all hear anything more concrete, please post it in the SECr board as I don't check in here as often.

I also have 2 or 3 folks here who'd downvote me publishing the cure for cancer. I call them "fans" and consider it an honor to be their focus. In reality, clicking the vote button (up or down) literally has the significance of nothing. Anyone can click a button - few can back up their votes with intelligent banter - and anyone who regular clicks those buttons is wasting their life little by little with every single click.

There are five in-state prospects in the newly released 247Sports Top 100 for the Class of 2022. Three of them are in the Top 17.

Several Alabama prospects make Top100 for class of 2022

quote:

Jeremiah Alexander, 4-star WDE, Alabaster (Ala) Thompson — No. 9

Alexander holds a dozen early offers to his name, the Tide included, after impressing on the gridiron as a freshman, totaling 74 tackles, including 16 tackles for a loss and six sacks on the year. The 6-foot-2, 218-pounder hasn’t come close to touching his ceiling.

“Just as he grows to maintain his speed and agility,” Thompson head coach Mark Freeman said of what Alexander can work on as he develops and progresses through the high school ranks. “He’s definitely going to grow. He’s got to keep his speed and his quickness in relation to his size, and he will. Is he going to be a guy with his hand down or stand up? I don’t know. He could be that rare guy that could do both because he’s super athletic. I think the thing he’s really got to work on is keep his speed and his quickness in relation to his size. If Jeremiah grows into 6-4, 255, we want, proportionally, his speed and his quickness to be the same, if not better. It will. The guy takes care of himself from the way he eats to how he carries himself in the classroom. He’s going to be good one.”

quote:

Robert Woodyard, 4-star ILB, Mobile (Ala.) Williamson — No. 14

Auburn, Georgia, and LSU have already offered the south Alabama standout that can play both sides of the ball effectively.

quote:

Khurtiss Perry, 4-star SDE, Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing — No. 17

Perry showed up at to the National Combine in San Antonio last year as one of the youngest competitors at the event if you want to know what kind of competitor the in-state defensive lineman is. Perry worked out at Alabama this summer and is on affixed upon UA’s radar.

“It went real great,” Perry told BOL of his workout at the Capstone this summer. “I worked with Coach (Brian) Baker. I could have done way better, but I think I performed better when I got locked in.”

Perry performed well enough to catch Nick Saban’s eye.

“He told me that he was very interested in me and he would love for me to come back anytime I wanted to,” Perry said. “He said they’re going to be inviting me to a lot of things they have going on.”

quote:

TJ Dudley, 4-star OLB, Montgomery (Ala.) Montgomery Catholic Preparatory — No. 72

The SEC hasn’t come calling yet for Dudley, but it shouldn’t take long for more offers to find their way in if Dudley continues at his current trajectory. So far, Central Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Houston, Illinois and Indiana are in the mix.

quote:

Lucas Taylor, 4-star OG, Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul’s Episcopal — No. 95

Taylor played his freshman season in Mississippi before making his way over to Mobile. The 6-foot-3.5, 314-pounder has already attracted interest from programs like Florida, Florida State, and Mississippi State, among others. Expect interest to continue ramping up with more exposure at in-state powerhouse St. Paul’s Episcopal.

Xavion Alford CBd to TAMU by a TAMU mod.

TAMU has Alford concerned about how many safety commits Bama has for 2020 -- probably by pointing to Branch, Moore, Morton, Story, plus Joel Williams being pretty likely to commit -- even though most of them can also play CB and/or nickel, Morton won't be signing with Bama and Story could end up at QB, WR, S or even ILB.

Also, with commits Branch, Moore, Robinson (and Story), it appears a CB Joseph and a CB/S Williams may be higher priorities than a pure safety Alford, and Bama may not have room to take all three of them.

ETA: Wiltfong has also CBd Alford to TAMU.

woo... was about to reply to phaz but uh... got distracted.

Y'all heard any updates on Nadab Joseph at all? Seemed like everything was quiet on him from UGA insiders up until recently and I heard an interview where he said we were "the leader" but in a super soft and non-committal way... "things changing" etc. Just curious what the Bama insider guidance has been there so far. I obviously would love for us to land him since he's a freebie IC spot, but just not sure since you guys were his first choice the last time around.

With things being a bit slow, if you get a chance watch the newest episode of Bama Cuts!

Watch it until the end!!

You can tell the players get locked in!!! Fantastic episode.

I hope a lot of recruits see this...they might realize what Saban and Bama are trying to do....mold them by supplying the teachable moments that can impact players for life.
