Four-Star 2020 Pass-Rusher Jordan Banks Talks Washington Visit (247-Dawgman)

quote:

After a standout junior season, four-star Narbonne (Harbor City, Ca.) LB/DE Jordan Banks has seen his stock skyrocket and one school that made an early offer to him was Washington.

He recently took a trip to see Montlake up close and that visit has vaulted Washington to the top of Banks' list. "It was a really great visit," Banks told Dawgman.com. "It was fun to hang out with some of the other recruits who were up on campus. I already knew a couple of them, at least I'd met them, so it was fun to just hang out and watch the basketball game.

"A big thing that really stood out to me was the vibe I got when I was there. They really care about players and making sure they are successful in their lives, not just on the football field. They want to help you grow in every way and they also are all about great football players, so they focus on developing you on the field too. It's really impressive to see their 'Built For Life' program and what it's all about. I know my parents loved that part of it too."

Banks said he also loved the campus and the weather. "The campus is old and I loved that," Banks noted. "The buildings are all old and the (architecture) is really cool. It just had that old college feel. I also saw snow when I was there. I'd never seen snow before, so for it to start snowing, that was really cool. It was just a fun trip overall."

Banks' main recruiter at the University of Washington is Pete Kwiatkowski and the two talk frequently. "He's a good coach and he does a good job of developing his guys," Banks said. "He and I get along really well. We have the same mindset on things."

On the recruiting front, Banks has multiple Power 5 offers and, while he's not ready to name an official list of favorites, three schools are standing out currently.

"I'd say Alabama, Oklahoma and Washington are the three that are standing out the most for me," Banks said. "I am not naming a top three or anything like that, but those are the three standing out for me right now.

"I have offers from 14 schools and the schools that are close to offering are Texas, Georgia and Clemson. I should have those in the next month or so."

As a senior this past season, Banks led the way up front for the Gauchos, totaling 61 tackles, 20 tackles-for-loss and 13 sacks, leading his team in the final two categories.

"I'm at my best getting after the quarterback," Banks admitted. "I just feel comfortable attacking the line of scrimmage, but I don't just rush the quarterback. I also play the run. That's something that I take pride in."

This past weekend, Banks was one of the top players at the Los Angeles Nike Regional Event at Long Beach City College and he came away with some new coaching tips and knowledge of his game overall.

"The coaches there were great and they showed us a lot," Banks said. "They showed you how to use your hands better or to step so that you can set up a blocker, stuff like that, but I also learned a lot about myself too and what I can do better. I loved the event. There was tons of great competition there."

Banks said he doesn't plan to make an early decision, hoping to take at least a few official visits during the fall and then wants to sit down with his family to make a decision.

4-star WR Javon Baker 6-1/180 GA hudl

Baker was recruited by Gattis and committed in Nov. At UA's Jan 26th Jr Day, he spent a lot of time with Saban and new WR coach Holmon Wiggins, who he talks with frequently. Baker's dad says he is locked in with Alabama.

Rising in-state WR likes winning mentality at Alabama (BamaOnLine-VIP)

4-star WR Eddie Williams 6-3/183 AL hudl *

Williams is expected to climb in the recruit rankings and will be at Bama's Junior Day this coming weekend.

“Just the fact that they got that winning mentality... they’re working day in and day out... having fun while they do it... I work hard and like to have fun, so I could fit well with the program.”

Williams also says he likes Coach Saban a lot. He plans to announce a top five in the spring, commit and sign in Dec and enroll in Jan. His sister is a student at Bama.

Nick Cross, FSU commit, finally signed today.

With Maryland!

Great for Locks, but FSU is a dumpster fire.

I think a lot of people saw that coming. I was kind of hoping Hellams would talk Saban into taking Cross. I know we didn't need another DB but I wanted them stars. .

*Cue the FSU mascot 8 bit gif*

Commitment analysis: Rivals100 DB Nick Cross flips to Maryland (Rivals)

I wonder why Bama didn't push for Nick Cross after Dax Hill initially committed to UM.

I've wondered that too and I came to the personal conclusion that Dax was a take no matter what, but in reality they were done at safety. Hell, it maybe in an article somewhere but it didn't seem like Dax notified anyone when he flipped .

That was either orchestrated by Harbaugh or a "frick you dad, I'll do what I want" moment. It was pretty telling when he went completely silent after doing it.

Zachary Evans jumps to No. 1 in 2020 class (247Sports)

quote:

Zachary Evans is the new No. 1 player in the 2020 class. The Houston running back jumped to No. 1 in the 247Sports Composite player rankings following an industry update Tuesday.

The Top247 rankings for the 2020 cycle are currently led by Maryland defensive end Bryan Bresee. Evans ranks No. 6 in the Top247, but 247Sports on Feb. 20 will update its rankings for the 2020 class.

The rising high school senior headlines an excellent group of ball carriers in 2020 cycle. Evans is one of six running backs in 2020 that hold a five-star distinction in the 247Sports Composite. For context, the 2018 and 2019 classes combined featured six 247Sports Composite five-star rushers total.

But Evans, one of the best backs in Texas high school history, might be in a class all his own. Evans runs a verified 4.5-second 40-yard dash, but his real strength is his vision and suddenness in the open field.

The 6-foot, 213-pound North Shore High product is already a state champion in Texas’ highest classification, having led his team a year ago with 1,483 yards and 27 touchdowns. North Shore finished the year with an undefeated record in 6A, winning the state championship on a Hail Mary.

Evans’ recruitment promises to be a contentious one. Texas currently leads in the Crystal Ball with 43 percent of the projections, followed by Texas A&M with 29 percent and Oklahoma State with 14 percent.

Make no mistake, though, this will be a national recruitment. Evans showed heavy early interest in Alabama and LSU, and he recently visited Georgia and Tennessee.

If Evans were to hold on to the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports Composite rankings, he’d be just the third running back ever to hold that title joining Adrian Peterson, Joe McKnight and Leonard Fournette.

Late reply to an old(er) post: what are the biggest needs for the 2020 class?

Staff went all-in on Nakobe Dean, but struck out. Then we went all-in on the back-up plan: Henry To’oto’o (who we probably would have gone after even if we’d gotten Dean). Then Tosh left and To’oto’o started trending towards Tennessee after which we zeroed in on the back-up plan to the back-up plan: Daniel Heimuli. Again the word was that we would take both (To’oto’o plus Heimuli) if they would be willing to commit. During most of this time we had both Shane Lee and Christian Harris either committed or signed as ILBs. Alas, none of the above (Dean, To’oto’o, Heimuli) joined the Tide. Hence, it seems safe to say that the new coaching staff will aggressively target several ILBs during the upcoming recruiting cycle.

Other than ILB wide receiver should be high on the list. I believe Jeudy, Ruggs and Smith are all draft-eligible, with Jeudy a certainty to leave (high first round grade). If neither Smith or Ruggs struggle with injuries they could get first round grades as well and then declare for the draft. However, a factor that could trigger either Ruggs or Smith to stay is that when Jeudy is gone Smith or Ruggs get to be the lead receiver. Depending on who would be the quarterback and who would be the offensive coordinator in that year, that could prompt them to stay for their senior year. Lead receiver could mean a significantly higher draft grade. I think the current draft grade for Smith and Ruggs sits at round 1-2. Ruggs/Smith would like to see that become a solid 1st round or high 1st round grade. And maybe (wishful thinking!) that could entice them to stay another year.

Either way 2 or 3 of our top receivers could very well be gone after next season, leaving Waddle (as was said here before) as our no. 1 guy. I think we signed only Metchie this year at WR, which is definitely not enough to make up for the possible/likely loss of Jeudy, Ruggs and/or Smith.

So, for sure WR is a huge area of need. ILB was the last time so probably will be for the next/current cycle as well.

About Nick Cross and Bama: Cross goes to the same school as DeMarcco Hellams: DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD). I read somewhere (I think on the old SECCountry site before it went defunct, prob. in a Chris Kirschner post, but I can’t find the story or the link) that Cross likely was not going to sign for the same school as Hellams (much like high school teammates Tyson Campbell and Patrick Surtain in 2018, with Campbell choosing Georgia and Surtain joining the good guys). So after Hellams committed to Alabama our chances of signing Nick Cross were kind of gone. Could be wrong, but that’s how I remember it…

lNation's No. 1 TE taking things slow
(247Sports | embedded video)

LONG BEACH, CA – Darnell Washington is the nation's top-rated tight end for the 2020 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings and backed that up Sunday at The Opening Regional.

The four-star prospect from Las Vegas (Nev.) Desert Pines had a top 15 test score, which was impressive given that he measured 6 feet, 7 1/2 inches and weighed 248 lbs. He moved well down field and showed off a wide catch radius, proving to be a matchup nightmare in the red zone where he could use his size to reach over defenders for possession.

On the recruiting front, Washington went on a few unofficial visits recently, checking out a handful of options he had never seen before, and told 247Sports it certainly piqued his interest.

"I made it out to Penn State, West Virginia and Pitt, and I really enjoyed those visits because it was great to get a new perspective on a few things," Washington said. "I learned some new things, like I didn't know Penn State threw the ball as much as they do. They use their tight ends and get them the ball, so that was good to see.

"West Virginia was also really good; I liked the strength and conditioning coach who taught us a lot in a short amount of time. At Pitt I liked the coaching staff and I felt like we connected."

Washington, who has surpassed the 30-offer mark and stacks up No. 24 overall in the 2020 class according to the 247Sports Composite, is planning a few other trips in the coming months.

"I know I'm going to visit a few other schools again, some places I've been already and some new schools I've never seen before," Washington said. "Miami is definitely one school I want to see. That's tight end U, the fan base is crazy and they blew up my tweet about the offer. I know that it has a lot of great things and I want to see it for myself. I have never talked to Brevin Jordan in person, but he retweeted my offer and it blew up so I'm interested to see how he likes it out there.

"I'm also looking at a few other places out West. I believe Oregon is going to be one that we get to that I haven't checked out. My coach has been out there and he told me it's cool. We're also hoping to get to visit UCLA and USC again. Those schools we've been to and we really liked the first time. Obviously there are a few new coaches there so it will be good to get another look."

Washington is in no rush to make a college decision and intends to go through the process.

"Right now it's just fun weighing my options and trying to narrow things at some point," Washington said. "I might take an official visit or two in the spring, but I know I definitely want to take some during the season to check out games. I'm not 100 percent positive on any of them, we're just waiting to see what the recruitment looks like and go from there."
