And like you said, The BVS (Battered Vols Syndrome) has gotten real bad. I had to quit posting there. Too many of them couldn't handle my pressence. I was getting swarmed if posted anything.

I feel you as I am not well liked there either. They even ran off their own good posters.

Zach Evans on Aug 12 -- "I don't really have any specific day yet. I want to take my officials first."

Brian Perroni (Gigem247-VIP) interviewed Evans at Northshore HS yesterday.

Natural skateboarder to Alabama commit

LINK

When Javon Baker was a kid, his present choice for one Christmas puzzled his dad, Jerald Baker.

“What do you want from Christmas?” Jerald asked a young Javon.

“A skateboard,” Javon answered.

“Have you ever ridden a skateboard,” Jerrald asked.

“No, but I will learn,” Javon said.

Not only did Javon insist his dad buy him a skateboard that Christmas, but he also wanted a customized one. Jerald came through and brought Javon the skateboard as an early Christmas present on Dec. 23. By Dec. 26, Jerald Baker heard a knock at his door. On the other side of the door stood an older kid, who had been riding skateboards for years.

The older kid began to ask Jerald how long Javon had been riding skateboards and Jerald told him only a couple of days, which left the older kid startled.

“He said, no you are telling a story, I do not believe that, he is sliding off rails and doing all type of stuff,” Jerald Baker said. “As far as being an athlete, Javon has been blessed with that talent. He is just as good at basketball as he is at football. He has always been like a fish out of the water.”

Javon has blossomed from a skateboard fanatic to one of the top wide receivers in the nation. All roads look to lead to Tuscaloosa for Javon as he is verbally committed to the Tide. The Georgia product has also risen up most recruiting rankings as he put on great performances at national camps throughout the Summer.

re: Football Recruiting & Roster ~ Kyle Edwards to Tide edition
Javon’s competitiveness helped him steal the show at the Nike Opening Regional in Atlanta, where he won the wide receiver MVP award. Cam Newton’s 7v7 team also showcased Javon’s talent during their summer circuit. Throughout each event, a competitive attitude has accompanied Javon, which is something Jerald Baker said comes naturally to the 4-Star recruit.

“He is blessed with it, but what he does with it is, he make sure whatever team he is on, he is the alpha dog,” Jerald Baker added. “He is not going to say too much. He is going to lead by example. He will take the team and put them on his back if he has to.”

The alpha dog mentality Jerald Baker speaks of will have to accompany Javon at the next level as he could join an Alabama locker room filled with players with a similar attitude. The Crimson Tide got a commitment from Baker on Nov. 25, making Javon the Tide’s second 2020 wide receiver commit at that point.

re: Football Recruiting & Roster ~ Kyle Edwards to Tide edition
The love Nick Saban and his staff shown Javon played a large role in his decision and it is what has both of Baker’s parents all in on the Tide.

“I love Alabama,” Jerald said. “I love how much love they have shown my family and my son. It means a lot to me, that Javon chose Alabama because of the tradition there and the fact that he is motivated enough to want to take on the challenge. Alabama has a tradition because of Nick Saban and a lot of coaches, who have coached up under him say he is a stickler or he is hard. Saban is just disciplined and Javon is willing to take on that challenge.”

Academics is also very important in the Baker home as both of Javon’s parents hold Master Degrees. Javon plans to pick a major associated with media to continue the Baker academic prestige.

“The main goal for him is I want him to get a degree,” Jerrald said. “The goal we talked about thoroughly is graduating. We do not want to be a three and done. I want him to enjoy the entire experience.”

Alabama’s 2020 class is expected to end with at least four wide receivers committed to join Baker. Some athletic skateboard like catches could be headed to Bryant-Denny Stadium in a couple of years.

Take Two: How do things stand with Zachary Evans entering fall? (2 days ago)
quote:

Take Two returns with a daily offering tackling an issue in the college football landscape. Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Adam Gorney lays out the situation and then receives takes from Rivals.com national recruiting director Mike Farrell and an expert from the Rivals.com network of team sites or a regional analyst.

THE STORYLINE

The recruitment of five-star running back Zachary Evans continues and the opinions and speculation of where he ends up is non-stop as well.

The Houston (Texas) North Shore standout released a top five of Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and Georgia, but some believe Texas and Texas A&M remain serious players especially because he continued to visit both schools through the summer.

Trying to pick a front-runner is an impossibility because Evans has not made it clear which program stands out most and it’s unclear whether he even knows which team looks best at this point.

There are lots of things to consider: Georgia recently received a commitment from five-star RB Kendall Milton. Texas landed high four-star RB Bijan Robinson. Ohio State has been striking out with a lot of its top targets, so the Buckeyes could remain a serious contender.

LSU continues to be a front-runner, especially as the Tigers have been recruiting so well this recruiting cycle. Alabama appears to have lost five-star RB Trey Sanders for the season with a foot injury, which essentially pushes him into the 2020 class with Evans. Will that have an effect on Evans' thought process?

And then there is Texas A&M. With all the confusion surrounding Evans’ recruitment, staying close to home and playing with lots of Houston-area prospects could be the biggest draw, especially as the Aggies’ coaching staff keeps coming after him.

As the summer draws to a close and his senior season gets underway, is there anything clearing up about where Evans ends up?

FIRST TAKE: MARK PASSWATERS, AGGIEYELL.COM

“You don't get to quote Winston Churchill much in this business, but Evans is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. I don't know if anyone really knows what he's thinking, but this much is certain: he's visited A&M multiple times since supposedly eliminating them. His interest appears quite real.

"Georgia has taken Milton and Alabama has that amazing stable of backs, so it looks like A&M and LSU make the most sense. The Aggies just picked up Evans' 2021 teammate, WR Shadrach Banks, and have a lot of Houston-area commits in his ear. The coaching staff believes they have a legitimate shot to land Evans and there's pretty good reason to think they have a point.”

Bama's top two RBs will likely be drafted.
LSU has 2 new freshmen (5* & high 4*) RBs.

SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM

“He’s taking his time and trying to find what the best fit is going to be. Oddly enough, the Sanders injury could play into his interest in Alabama. On the one side, it could be something where Evans sees he’s going to be on more even footing if he goes to Alabama since Sanders will basically be a freshman again next year. On the other hand, Evans could see Sanders will be around longer, so that will be interesting to watch.

“I don’t think Georgia is an option. I know they’re going to continue to recruit him but I don’t see him going to a school with another five-star. So that’s why I keep saying A&M is the option that interests him the most. If they have a good season and they’ve done a good job having productive running backs over the years. That’s the one he’s waiting to see what happens this season.”

It appears those guys don't even realize that:
(1) Evans isn't worried about Bama's projected RB depth chart, (2) Evans knows splitting carries is a good thing and (3) the teams' OL talent is very important to him.

Take Two: Does Bryce Young deserve a five-star ranking?

There is a wide variance of opinion when it comes to top-ranked dual-threat quarterback Bryce Young and it could be years before people are proven right or wrong on the four-star from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei.

An argument could be made for Young to be a five-star, especially if he follows in the path of the players he is most often compared to in Russell Wilson, Baker Mayfield, Johnny Manziel or Kyler Murray.

Another point could be had that just because he’s a dynamic high school quarterback does not mean his style of game will translate to the college and pro game. Tate Martell is a recent example of someone who was a big-time winner on the high school level but has struggled to find his footing in the college game and couldn’t even beat out Jarren Williams or N’Kosi Perry for the starting job at Miami.

Young is highly talented. And he’s got a surprisingly strong arm, as we saw at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by adidas this summer. His high school resume can stand up against anybody else’s in the 2020 class. There are numerous reasons why Alabama continues to pursue the USC commit and the Crimson Tide have made him a big priority in this class.

Young has moved up in the rankings model and in the Rivals100 after another strong summer. Is he worthy of a fifth star as he proves he is the next Wilson or Murray, or is it completely unfair to both sides to make those comparisons since those players are so unique and rare?

re: Football Recruiting & Roster ~ Kyle Edwards to Tide edition
quote:

FIRST TAKE: RYAN YOUNG, TROJANSPORTS.COM

“The five-star debate on Young is interesting because it would seem to simply come down to criteria. If the rating were purely a projection for what he can do at the college level, he's a clear five-star. His combination of touch, timing and arm strength when needed leave no doubts after watching him through the summer camp circuit and some 7-on-7.

"He may not win the longest throw competition with other top 2020 prospects, but watching him in live action his deep ball is as precise and impressive as anyone's. And he has the confidence in his arm strength to fit the ball in tight windows when needed. Any questions about his size would pertain more to a post-college evaluation, and if NFL Draft stock is weighing heavily in the five-star, four-star debate, then perhaps I can understand the other side.

"There's a reason Alabama has set its sights on trying to flip him off his USC commitment. Assuming he stays with his USC pledge, he'll walk into an interesting situation with his Mater Dei predecessor JT Daniels still likely around for two more seasons once Young arrives and 2019 freshman Kedon Slovis emerging as more than most expected.

"That said, Young is an ideal fit for what Graham Harrell wants out of his QBs with his ability to spread it around the field accurately and connect deep when those opportunities arise. Five-star or not, he carries true star potential to the next level.”

re: Football Recruiting & Roster ~ Kyle Edwards to Tide edition
quote:

SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM

“The comparison to Wilson is overrated because Wilson was a very good high school quarterback but most schools wanted to move him to wide receiver. Mayfield was a walk-on, and a lot of people thought he was a system quarterback. And Murray was a guy who never lost, a dynamic athlete, but he was super small. Who knows what he would’ve done at Texas A&M but he got in a perfect system at Oklahoma. Comparing the situations is difficult.

“Young is a talented kid. The strengths are his leadership, he’s a winner, he can definitely extend the play and keep defenses off-balance and nothing seems to be too big for him as far as the stage is concerned but he’s so small. How many Kyler Murrays are there that are going to come along? That’s what we don’t know.

"When Wilson became a star in the NFL, we were like, ‘OK, he’s a one-off.’ Then Manziel wins the Heisman. Now you have Murray. Is this going to be a trend that continues for a long time or are we just seeing rare shorter quarterbacks? That’s what we really don’t know.”

Four-Star WR Xzavier Henderson talks finalists, fall visit plans
quote:

THE LATEST: Four-star wide receiver Xzavier Henderson plans to announce his commitment on Jan 4 and has already narrowed his list to include just five schools. Below, the South Florida-based star discusses his options and his plans for the fall.

IN HIS WORDS:

ON THE SCHOOLS THAT REMAIN IN THE MIX: “It’s Florida, Clemson, Alabama, Georgia and LSU. Those are the ones I’m really looking at.”

ON FLORIDA: “My brother [Gators defensive back CJ Henderson], man. That was his dream school obviously. I never really had a dream school. So growing up and following his footsteps would be a dream for me, I guess. That is basically the school I liked because of him. He really isn’t pushing me because he’s not going to be there. Since he’s going to be gone, he’s not impacting my choice. He just tells me to take my time and make sure I do what is right for me.”

ON CLEMSON: They’re up there near the top -- deep in the mix. The receivers there fit my prototype. A lot of them are like me. ON DABO SWINNEY: “He’s cool, man. He’s just real enthusiastic. He’s a good, Christian man and he’s all about commitment. He’s all about being all in. That’s a big thing with him.

ON ALABAMA: “Coach [Nick] Saban is real serious. I mean, real serious. It’s been a while since I’ve been there, so I’m trying to think about what stands out. I’m taking my official there, so I’ll have a better feel then. I haven’t been there since June.”

ON GEORGIA: They do great in Florida and they relate to Florida kids. Everybody says they are just a running back school, but they try to show me that's not really true. You need a good running back if you want to be open as a receiver, so that’s appealing. I haven’t been there since back in June. I visited the same time I visited Alabama. It was all in a span of, like, two weeks. I liked it a lot.

ON LSU: “I didn’t get an official offer from them yet, but they tell me how bad they want me. They are trying to get the ball in the air and think I can help with that.”

ON UPCOMING OFFICIAL VISITS: I haven’t scheduled any, but the five I said [Florida, Clemson, Alabama, Georgia and LSU] are going to get them. I’ll take one during my bye week and then figure out the rest of the schedule from there.

ON HIS DECISION DATE: “I’m announcing at the All-American Game on January 4.”

RIVALS REACTION: So much will be made of Henderson’s official visits, and rightly so. Clemson and, to a slightly lesser extent, Florida seem like the leaders at this juncture but that could change once the four-star wideout embarks on his official visit tour. Georgia and Alabama could easily make a late move. LSU seems like the least likely option at this juncture.

If you listen to Georgia “insiders”, they believe Milton has talked Evans into joining him at UGA.

I mentioned on the Recruiting Board that Americus missed on most of his big calls last cycle and Dawg fans were highly upset. They take their "insiders" very seriously.
