Were we told that we shouldn't expect him in the class? It was either he or Worsham.

Brian Branch (6" 182 lb. S from Ga.) is expected to commit to Bama over OU this evening. Top 100 prospect on 247. Lower 4 star on the Composite. Looks really good on his highlights.

FWIW, Rodney Orr has a source that (according to him) he respect a lot as a talent evaluator that is very high on Branch after evaluating him in person last year.

BREAKING: Alabama lands 4-star DB from Georgia (BamaOnLine)
quote:

Alabama wins another recruiting battle in the Peach State, this time for 247Sports Top100 safety Brian Branch. The Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek product committed to the Crimson Tide on Friday night over Oklahoma and Tennessee.

“Every time I go up there it’s just a family vibe,” Branch told BamaOnLine of why Alabama. “I just feel like I’m home and I can spend the next four years of my life there. Coach (Charles) Kelly, I have such a good relationship with him. And just being around the players and their vibes. And also I want to be surrounded by the best — iron sharpens iron.”

Branch told Kelly and head coach Nick Saban that he wanted to commit last week. He says the staff was excited and is looking forward to getting him on campus for an official visit soon.

“Everything about Coach Kelly,” Branch said of why he likes about the new Tide assistant. “He’s been recruiting me before he went to Alabama when he was at Tennessee. He and my coach at my high school have been good buddies because he coached Isaiah Johnson, who was a 2010 safety from Sandy Creek that went to Georgia Tech. We have a great relationship where I can just call him up anytime I want to to talk about things.”

The four-star safety is commitment No. 15 for the Crimson Tide, boosting the program’s standing atop the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.

Branch is also the fourth defensive back in the class, joining four-star cornerback Malachi Moore, four-star safety Javier Morton, and three-star cornerback Jahquez Robinson. The Tide also has a pledge from three-star in-state athlete De'Rickey Wright who currently projects as a safety, but could wind up contributing elsewhere.

At 6-foot, 182 pounds, Branch is rated the No. 18 safety and the No. 225 overall player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. 247Sports rates Branch the No. 5 safety and the No. 95 overall player in the country.

Breaking: Alabama beats Sooners and Vols for Brian Branch (BamaInsider)
quote:

Brian Branch held off as long as he could. The Georgia defensive back has been leaning towards Alabama for some time now, and on Friday night, he announced his commitment to Alabama. He had a long list of offers, and he took over half a dozen visits in 2019, but the Crimson Tide won out.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

"I’ve verbally committed to Alabama," said Branch. "It’s home there. I didn’t do it because of the coaching staff, I did because I wanna go against the best of the best every day. The campus is for me and the facilities are for me. The hospitality is amazing there.

"I told the Alabama coaches Monday and they called me right after very excited. I made my decision Monday, right after I got back from Oklahoma. I chose Alabama over Oklahoma and Tennessee.

"I have been so excited about committing. I almost committed Tuesday, but waited and I am looking forward to getting to Alabama and playing cornerback or safety."

RIVALS REACTION

Branch is a versatile defensive back that can play cornerback and safety. He has good size, he is physical, he is instinctive and Alabama is getting a good one. He is a prospect that has seen his stock rise early in 2019. With his ability, combined with frame and versatility, he is a valuable defensive back against the spread offenses of today. Alabama will still have to work to secure Branch's signature. He does plan to take more visits, but he said he feels very strong to Alabama at this time.

RTR!

By the way, did Javon Baker win the WR MVP award at the Rivals 3 stripe camp? Someone on another site posted that he did, but didn't link anything. If so, Baker is really tearing it up. Saban's staffs (revolving doors though they may be) really do a great job of evaluating WRs in the last few years. Seems like any time we heavily pursue or accept a commitment from a WR rated outside the top (let's say) 100 overall or so, they wind up blowing up.

...but he ran a 4.8 so let's focus on that moreso than the accolades he keeps receiving

That's a Opening ATL WR MVP and a 3 Stripe Camp ATL WR/TE MVP in less than a month. Also got an invite to Rivals' 5 Star Challenge too.

Armoni Goodwin also won RB MVP at that same camp too.

Nice. I think he’ll get a Bama offer soon. I saw him at Florence and I’m no talent evaluator, but he looked like a SEC running back

New Bama DB commit drawing comparisons to Eddie Jackson (BOL | includes video)
quote:

Alabama landed commitment No. 15 in its 2020 class on Friday night as four-star safety Brian Branch joined the fold over schools like Oklahoma and Tennessee.

The Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek product ranks within the Top100 of the 247Sports rankings, checking in at No. 95 overall in the nation.

247Sports' Charles Power breaks down what makes the Peach State defensive back special.

"This is a very nice pickup for Alabama. When you look at top defensive backs in college and the NFL, most were dynamic two-way players as high school prospects. That's something that really sticks out with Branch. He's a great overall football player and transfers that playmaking ability to all three phases. On offense, he shows some high-level ball and tracking skills, making some impressive over the shoulder grabs- something you like to see in a top DB. He's dangerous as a kick and punt returner with make-miss ability in the open field and the speed to pull away. Perhaps most importantly, that type of skill shows up at safety. Branch has exceptional instincts in coverage, reading routes and the quarterback, resulting in some impressive interceptions and plays on the ball. Overall, he's just an outstanding all-around football player. If Bama fans are looking for a recent Tide comparision, Branch's two-way skill and instincts at this level are a little reminiscent of former Alabama safety Eddie Jackson."

At 6-foot, 184 pounds, Branch ranks as the No. 225 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.
