My 1t basketball game was in around 65 with Bama playing Vanderbilt at Foster. Vandy had a 7 footer named Clyde Lee. Bama had a left handed guard from Indiana Mike Nordholtz he Mike killed that night. Seems like only yesterday than again at 70 everything seems like yesterday.

I used to LOVE Bama basketball as a kid, would go to tons of game and got my Eric Washington signed hat still. I was right under the basket when Pettway drove for the winning layup against Florida.
I had to bail in the middle of the Grant era (I attended a 40 - 42 home LOSS as my final game that just was not any fun to be a part of) and was Football Only for several years.
I got excited with the Johnson and Oats hires and peeked in early season for a few games and then late again for a few games prior to SEC championship, and then for the inevitable disappointment. I haven't been able to fully commit - I had just been hurt to much. The big leads before a 10 minutes scoring drought, the last second losses after a random bricked 3, the big win to think we have turned a corner only to collapse on the road the following week have all been too painful over the last 10 years.
I am ready to fully commit and I can accept if I have to go through that heartbreak again. I still have that one glorious week where we were ranked #1 in 2003 and the 2004 Elite Eight which give me hope.
All that said my #1 wish for this season is an SEC Tournament win, I would take that over an Elite 8 given the chance. I got to witness the 2002 regular season championship, but we haven't won the SEC tournament in my time of fandom.
tl;dr - Memoir of Bama Basketball Fan

i remember the occasional bama bball game back in the day that was on tv where i lived. reginald king, bobby lee hurt, gotfried, farmer and wimps loud jackets. cm newton. bama was always competitive back then. iirc then hobbs and the slow ascent into the abyss. yep, ive seen a good bit of bama bball.
i used to be very passionate about basketball. am i the only one that used to sit up late at night watching depaul bbal on wgn out of chicago, simply because it was bball. somewhere along the way, i lost that passion. mainly due to the refs and home cooking rather than fairness. oh well, rtr regardless!

This thread brings me sadness in knowing that the reality of Nate Oats ever leaving here for another school will be rooted in the opinions expressed in this thread.

Remember the C.M. Newton days and was an avid fan during the Wimp Sanderson years. Gradually lost interest during the Hobbs and Gottfried years. May have to check out the team this year.
It's been 30 years since we won a conference championship!

I proudly own a Mark’s Madness t-shirt.
I almost didn’t turn the game on last night when we were up 20-4, but decided to test fate. Glad I did.
I don’t know what to do with my hands right now!

I don't know how it works but I hope the increased revenue brought in by the basketball team will go to upgrade the football facilities. We need to stay ahead of the curve against our rivals and thus need all the money we can get.

We’ve never hurt for football money. Ever. But you’d still like to bleed our other sports for more? Get lost with that, man.

I assume this is a troll or tongue in cheek but not sure how much “revenue” BB is bringing in right now with 1,000 people in the coliseum Football gets and has plenty of money

It’s his shtick. Go in threads and say how little he cares about anything but football

Not a FOG but a BB2G, really all sports.
Remember Bob Andrews, Harry Hammonds, Glen Turner, Mike Nordholz, et al. Then Hudson, House (HS contemporary), Odums, Douglas, Cleveland, Dunn, Brown, Garret, Russell, Murray, King, Scott, et al, then Whately, Hurt, Williams, Richardson, Lockett, Windham, Phillips, McKey, Farmer, Ansley, Jackson, Conor, Johnson, Robinson, Cheatum, Horry, Benoit, and so on. Some great players have come through Alabama.

Not a huge basketball fan in general but I do watch Bama games, duke vs carolina or other big games when I can. My wish is that we win a tournament game or two. That would be nice.

You're gonna be upset to learn that some of the football revenue will go towards our mew arena.
Why even build a new arena? I went to a couple of games when I was in school there and it seemed to serve its purpose just fine. I'm sure basketball is a great way to pass the time between January and April but if we invest too much money in the sport, I fear it will have a negative impact on the sport that actually matters.

Well that is a dumb fear to have and I hope you can get over it at some point.

I'm sure you think this is funny. It's just not. It's a little annoying, which I'm sure is what you were going for, but mostly it's just dumb. I appreciate your work on the football highlight videos but there's no need to tell the world you don't care about basketball. If you don't care about it, just don't bother talking about it.

I mean I guess I'd get it if we were spending $100 million on a facility for like golf or tennis or something that's going to have 0 ROI potential, but that's not really the case with basketball. It's not as high profile of a sport as college football, but having a top tier basketball program can bring in a ton of revenue to the UA athletics department as well as the city of Tuscaloosa.
Hell, we are usually top 25 nationally in revenue despite being mediocrity defined over the last 10 years.

I've been in a cave since the Ronald Steele years, what'd I miss?
Up until now, a lot of dribbling up to the arc, standing around until the shot clock runs down, and then hurtling one's body towards the basket in hopes of drawing a foul.
Inbounding the ball was unusually exciting.
Also, one coach's kid played a lot, which made his mom happy.
