I don't think there's any dumber rule in all of sports than the conference tournament champion getting an auto bid over the real conference champion.

If we hire a mid major coach it's a crap shoot. There are 100 guys with insanely awesome mid major records that are awful in major conference ball.

That's almost certainly what we'll end up doing though.

Prohm is the only candidate that makes sense that gets me excited, and I think that'll be a tough get.

C.M. Newton coached at like Transylvania
Wimp was a Newton assistant
Hobbs was a Wimp assistant
Gottfried came from Murray
Grant came from VCU
Avery came from ESPN

We don't exactly have a history of impressive pulls, and while Avery is making a lot, I don't think like 500k more is going to be enough to make a coach move down here.

Avery is making what 900K more than Prohm? Iowa State will probably raise Prohm significantly after this season. I think we'd need to offer like 3.5 to get him here, and that's after footing Avery's buyout if he doesn't leave on his own.

I agree that hiring a mid-major is something of a crap shoot. But you do it till you get it right. Kermit Davis was at Middle Tennessee since 2002. Why the hell didn’t someone call him up? Look at him in year 1 in Oxford. Prohm was at Murray State. Nick Saban was at Toledo. The key is give them a 4 year contract with the understanding that if you earn it, we’ll take care of you. But you aren’t getting a raise or an extension until year 3 when we’ve seen the product for a couple of years. But if you’re the next Coach K, in year 3 we’ll back the Brinks truck up. We aren’t Kentucky, we’re not going to hire Roy Williams away from UNC like we can in football. We’ve got to find our diamond in the rough and let him grow and develop.

If players are gonna lay down on their home court, no effort or hustle against avg Gator team the best way to get change is boycott remaining home games. I like Avery, respect him, played hard & was clutch back in Spurs days but players don't fear or respect him as their coach. He seems to be an xtra cheerleader in front of them. They know whether they care or not he's not gonna bench them for lack of effort. Watching the game, I felt bad for youngsters who were there. It sets a poor example on how the game should be played. Your gonna lose games but lack of effort, hustle, careless turnovers, continued poor free throw shooting is a reflection on poor coaching.

T.J. Otzelberger

LINK

I have a good feeling about this one. Pedigree? Check. Recruiter? Check. Wins? Check. Plus we won't have to break the bank on him.

Worst case? We give John Brannen a call.

Prohm got his first head coach job at Murray State in 2011. He went 31-2, 21-10, 23-11, 29-6. He won his league every year but only won his tourney in year 1 to make the NCAAs.

At Iowa State he’s gone 23-12, 24-11, 13-18 and so far he’s 19-6. He made the Sweet Sixteen in year 1 and the round of 32 in year 2. He’s making $2 million currently

I'll take Musselman over Prohm.

I think the positive is that if Finebaum's report and others who have corroborated is true, then Avery does want out. Regardless of whether the Pelicans gig works out or not, it's likely that if he gets an opportunity to go back to the NBA in some capacity he will leave. That is the best case scenario for himself, his family, and the University at this point.

He's from Kentucky though. Is that allowable in your only certain states have coaches who can coach theory?

As said before, every season under Avery has been the same. We get to mid February with some momentum and it looks like we're in. Then we suddenly get cold and start losing to teams we have no business losing to. We then start talking about how all we need to do is win 1-2 games in the SECT to get in. Then we ultimately lose to Kentucky on Friday or Saturday of the SECT. EVERY. DAMN. YEAR.

I'm just so meh on Alabama Basketball now that I've lowered my goal for the program from being a perennial tournament team with maybe a deep run every 5-10 years to just hoping that we're somewhat relevant in March.
