This one is a bit odd but found it noteworthy. Mathis sells a baseball card for 2.88 million for addtl funds to buy a house.
You could have bought the card for around $3K in 1988.

Props to his financial advisor. Can't believe it was "only" rated a 9 and got that much.

I'll never understand how a baseball card goes for that much.

Rarity and the buyer placing so much value on it. Action Comics #1 is worth over $3 million b/c moms back in the day threw that issue out quite often, plus Superman is a culture icon.

This is pretty interesting, actually. I wonder if it was something he pruchased as an investment at some point, or if it was a family heirloom.

Memorabilia and collections are pretty crazy. If you think about it.
People will pay shite ton of money for movie props and folks autographs. I dont get autographs.

Mathis is a high end card collector with the intent to flip.
Name drop, we follow each other on Twitter and have talked about it before. Really got in his craw that for the longest time he only had 1 card (his rookie card). He finally got another a few years back with Philly...

Look up Jackson Pollock. Some of his paintings go for 150 million or so and look like they were painted by a kindergarten class that slung paint everywhere.
I am a big fan of art and have seen one of his paintings up close and just don’t get the appeal.

Not a fan of Jack the Dripper, but some people are. I have no problem with that.

I don’t have a problem with it, either. Just pointing out that even more money is spent on other collectibles that don’t make a lot of sense to most people.

At least that's something someone actually did. A baseball card isn't even in the same realm. It's just a picture of a guy with some stats or a short bio.
Was the card at least signed?
