Plan when Waddle went down? It seemed to me we played more short passes and didn't take as many shots as we normally do. May just be my imagination.

I don't know if the gameplan changed, but we were definitely a little bit less explosive. Still very efficient, though.

We still took our shots with Metchie but Tennessee was trying to take away the deep shots, which allowed us the short to intermediate stuff.

It was planned game plan. Tennessee tend to have middle of the field wide open with LBs. We saw that on the tape and took advantage.

Also more and more teams are putting safeties back there to prevent big throws. So, no our game plan hasn't changed.. we simply are taking what defense give us.

Game plan didn't change, but the way they defended us probably did. (Never know since he was injured before their D took the field)

When you dont have to account for a player that can "take the top off the defense" you do not have to play with two high safeties, and you can play with an extra defender in the box.

This will be our problem moving forward against elite Ds- they will be able to get more creative since we lack another true burner like waddle/ruggs/jeudy to force them into keeping another player out of the box.

I love smitty, and I think he has a long career at next level, but I don't think he or metchie either one have that last elite gear that really puts the defense in a do or die situation every snap. Losing waddle was probably the second most disastrous thing we could have happen right behind BigMac.

I think losing waddle is actually worse. After a game or two to get comfortable, Bryce Young would probably have this offense rolling - maybe not AS GOOD as we are, but pretty damn close.

Waddle’s separation gives anyone throwing the ball much easier throws - I think both guys we have slinging the rock are capable of delivering long passes with waddle in the game. With waddle out, the field is about to get a lot tighter for our entire offense. Sucks big time we lost him.

...which could be a blessing in disguise because our TOP will increase and we should be able to keep our defense better rested.

Good thing we have Najee toting the rock. I prefer our offense when we pummel teams into submission anyway.

Losing Waddle sucks, but we still have a very solid receiving core and the best all-around offensive line in the country to go along with an elite back and a very serviceable QB. I hate that Waddle is gone, but I don't quite get the weeping and gnashing of teeth here. It sucks, it is what it is, I have faith our offense will find ways to still do a good job. We just went from immortal offense to elite, Top 5 national offense.

We won't really know until we play Georgia again, in all likelihood. Definitely not gonna be negative about it for a month until we know for sure.

I realize the quality of competition had dropped, but I was pleased to see fewer missed tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

Agreed - the scheme and team wasn't great, but we sealed edges and didn't miss many tackles. It was better.

Timmy Smith is a difference maker on the inside. He needs more playing time.

Very true. And I agree, I like this offense more than any offense we’ve had. We have such good balance and are so versatile in what we can do. We have a legitimate power run game, we are great at intermediate passes, we are great at the long ball, and we are very creative in dialing up mismatches.

The defense seems to be getting better, so if we can keep improving on that side of the ball, I have little worry we can still win a natty.

We have been so spoiled with great receiver talent the last 5 years.

If there are playing deep safeties, you don't take shots down the field.

Look at the Ole Miss game, not many down field shots. You take what the defense gives you.

I think all the worrying is with an eye towards Clemson and Ohio State and what they would likely do to Bama’s defense. Having maximum offensive firepower might not be necessary until then but it just feels like not having the true elite game breaker that Waddle is could be the difference.

Devonta is the best player on our team

One or two of the back up receivers will have to step up. Whether it's Baker, Jones Bell or Williams. Waddle is impossible to replace but as a group they will have to step up. Would be nice if Trey Sanders could be incorporated more as he gets in game reps.

Bases on what I saw last night LSU will be a tough game as will Auburn. Those teams can score.

If we can’t beat Clemson or Ohio State just because we lost a receiver, then we don’t deserve to win.

Waddle wasn’t going to beat them and his lack isn’t going to mean a loss. Alabama has a balanced offense that is in many ways plu and play.

A good reason why our offense is so balanced is because of waddle. He spreads the defense out so much. He keeps them on their heels every play.

A player of his caliber absolutely could be the difference in beating or losing to a Clemson/OSU/UGA.
