Back Judge is looking at D. Smith in the middle of the end-zone.

Wow. Stayed in on his tippy toes.

Pretty sure he thought Ruggs stepped out and came back in to make the catch.

Why didn't he throw his cap?
Posted on 10/27/19 at 7:49 am to Crimson Wraith
Because it was less than 0.2 seconds between when he thougut he stepped out and when he caught it?

He's not reaching for his hat and he's looking at another player 5 yds away.

He was waiting for the side judge to make the call for some reason. The side judge didn't see the catch made - he thought it was incomplete and was looking at Smith.
And there should have been a late hit penalty there.

Yep. Smitty got absolutely destroyed on that play. I hope he's good to go for LSU. He's tough as nails but not a very big guy. Obviously a tremendous play maker.

Until better is demanded, the same product will be fielded. Players and fans deserve better, and have for over fifteen years now. Not sure that the product isn't getting worse. The non-calls on holding this year - in every game, not just Alabama - is downright embarrassing for the conference. Teams know that offensive holding in the box is not likely to be called at a consistent clip, so it has become a free for all. Yesterday was the worst slate of officiating across the board in conference play that I could remember - egregious non-calls on linemen grappling.
I'm not an Auburn fan by any means, and really don't ever pull for them to win, but I have to say that I hope a highlight reel is being prepped for mailing into the SEC offices this week for review. That was a low point for the conference officiating-wise.
Past time conferences hire professionals. Especially the SEC.

So was Mac throwing to Smitty on that play?

No excuse for that miss. One should assume the ref followed the ball to Mr. Ruggs. That was enough time to look at the catch and feet. Instance replay makes this stuff absolute. But had it been any closer what the refs call in real-time could make all the difference in the world if a call stands.

I thought it was funny as hell. Glad they got the call right.
Even if Ruggs stepped out of bounds, the TD should’ve still counted right? It looked like Smitty or one of the Arkansas defenders tipped it before the ball got to Ruggs.

The look on Riggs face was like WTF I have the ball!

I was like referee sucked!

I don't think so. It looked to me like he was throwing to Ruggs all the way.

Not one penalty was called on Arkansas the whole game. How is that even possible?

Wasn't even a moment of implied inertia that he went out of bounds and reentered. Somebody was picking their nose or decided that the game needed some drama.

no. only way it would count, is if a defender pushed him out of bounds or he was not the first player to touch the ball
