For clarity, I'm not saying that Dabo would be dumb enough to hire a DC with the sames chops as Jeff Bowden (who replaced Mark Richt). I just have an extremely high opinion of Venebless as a coordinator, and I've seen firsthand the issues caused by staff turnover. I'm just reserving putting the finishing touches on my personal opinion of Dabo as a coach until I see what happens post Venebles/after staff turnover.

It will eventually happen, and we'll all find out.

Understood.

And while Dabo inevitably will have some staff turnover, I don't think he will deal with it as much as Saban does. I think the guys Saban hires are pretty much straight up mercenaries looking to use a Bama job as a stepping stone to a HC gig. I think Dabo looks for guys who are more likely to stick around a while and keeps them longer because he's easier to work for.

I think Dabo's staff retention has a lot to do with his management style.

Of course, but nothing lasts forever, and folks eventually want promotions past where they can climb at Clemson.

What I'd like to know is what Jimmy Sexton knows, and it honestly wouldn't surprise me one iota if there was already an informal verbal agreement between all parties that Dabo will take the Bama job in about 7-8 years, upon which time Venebles takes the Clemson job.

I'd wager a guess that, behind closed doors, a lot more is known about the future than not.

According to the following article dated 2017, Saban and Venables might retire around the same time, as Venables (now 48) is a "retire in his mid 50s" kind of guy.

With the new hip Saban will coach another 10 years. Dabo will retire and go on mission trips with Richt before Saban calls it quits.

He's not the HC of Washington and won't be anytime in the next 10 years.

It's a comical suggestion. The guy is just starting his second year as a coordinator. What's there about him to keep an eye on? It's going to be a few years before he even coaches a game anywhere.

UF finally hired Mullen and I wouldn't call him an a-lister.

Mullen is Vince Lombardi compared to a guy that has only one season as a full defensive coordinator in the worst "Power Five" conference. Mullen may not be on the "A list," but Lake isn't even on the page.

Another to keep an eye on is Matt Campbell.

Dabo is basically CEO type coach. He's known more for his recruiting and overall handling of the program than anything else. He can get away with most of this stuff in the watered down ACC but SEC is a whole different beast.

Clemson's current position reminds me of FSU's when FSU entered the ACC. The Noles owned it for yrs. How many yrs straight did FSU end the season ranked in the top four? (14?) now though that top 4 ranking will get Clem into a playoff (where ...who knows what happens) They are set for a good long run...and Taggert Diaz Brown etc are not able to do anything about it. Even if Clemson does lose a conf game....they still win the Conf and are inv the playoffs.

How many titles would Bowden have at FSU if the playoff existed and top 4 got in...in the 90s
