Dabo’s new contract
Clemson is doing their damnedest to ensure that Dabo stays at Clemson. His massive new $93 million dollar 10 year contract makes him the second highest paid coach in college football just a smidge behind CNS. It also has an interesting escalator on his buyout clause. His buyout starts at $4 million and decreases by a million every 2 years...BUT if he is leaving for Alabama, the buyout amount is 1.5 times whatever the current amount is.

re: Dabo’s new contract
Good for Dabo, can't argue with his results and Clemson is doing what it takes to be a top program instead of a stepping stone program.

But if they think it will stop Alabama if Alabama really wants him, then they kind of dumb. I assume they just want to get paid more in case.

I doubt Bama is putting their eggs in the Dabo basket. Remember folks, value wins games not who can spend the most $$$. By the time Saban retires, there should be at least one young up and comer that might be worth an interview.

Keep an on Jimmy Lake at Washington, I heard nothing but good things about that man.

Name the last coach Alabama had to win a National Championship that didn't coach at a major school before coming to Alabama.

I disagree. Sure, they want him to stay, but if Bama wanted to hire Dabo, his buyout would never be more than $6 million. That's chump change.

They want him to stay, but "doing their damnedest"? Naw, they're not.

He's not the HC of Washington and won't be anytime in the next 10 years.

And regarding Dabo, I'd be happy to have him at Bama after Saban, but unless his Coordinators, especially Venebles, swear lifetime allegiance to him Game of Thrones style, Dabo with different coordinators is a fundamental unknown.

His culture is his - no doubt. But those aren't his Xs and them ain't his Os.

Was Dabo a HC before taking the Clemson gig? Stoops before OU? Sometimes, schools have to take a chance on a promising candidate if there are no better options. The Saban scenario is a rare phenomenon.

re: Dabo’s new contract
Dabo is basically CEO type coach. He's known more for his recruiting and overall handling of the program than anything else. He can get away with most of this stuff in the watered down ACC but SEC is a whole different beast.

Yeah, you let other schools take those risks and then you pick their berries.

Especially when the program is in such great shape.

Bama doesn't have to take risks. Lake might be the next great coach but I doubt Baja will pursue an unproven guy.

Bama would if the coaching pool is shallow and coaches are scared to meet the expectations. It's unfathomable to folks that coaches at lesser programs would turn the big time down but it happens. Lou Holtz turned OSU down and USC has struggled to hire a top coach. H3ll, UF finally hired Mullen and I wouldn't call him an a-lister.

It will take a special person to be able to follow the Saban machine. Perhaps Dabo will be that guy, perhaps not.
We'l just have to wait and see, when the time comes, which may be a year, or ten years from now.

Depends on if you consider pre-1954 Texas A&M to be a major school. If you do, Frank Thomas was only a HC at Chatta-fricking-nooga. Wallace Wade sure wasn't a HC at a major school.

Bama would take Pruitt before they offered the guy from Washington.

You might want to actually watch a Clemson game. Dabo is on that headset giving his best thoughts the entire game.

I’m not saying Dabo is an X’s and O’s guru, but he’s no dummy and I have no doubt he knows what’s going on schematically on both sides of the ball at Clemson. He’s also good at hiring coaches. Chad Morris left and they got even better.

People talk about Venables but what was his rep before coming to Clemson? Not like it is now, I don’t think.

Always remember this: Some coaches are better than others, but superior talent makes all of them look smarter. And Clemson just had three DL selected in the first 17 picks and a QB who would have been #1 if eligible.

re: Dabo’s new contract
I'm just a little suspicious that Dabo's Clemson without Venebles will go the way of Bowden's FSU without Mark Richt - never the same.

I could certainly be wrong, but I personally need to see Dabo's Clemson after significant staff turnover, notably Venebles and Co.
