Dabo accepted the Bryant Award and called Woody McCorvey up

And waxed poetic for 5-10 minutes about Woody, Stallings, Atmore, Pelham, Alabama, Freddie Kitchens, Hwy 31, etc.
Not gonna lie, it makes a part of me sad that we won't have a guy who loves the program and loves the state (and is great at his job) leading the program at some point. Nobody's fault, stars just won't align, but it just feels like the 2 are meant for eachother and it won't happen.

Saw that. Good stuff.

Never say never.
I do believe Dabo said that about coming to Alabama.
Coaches get bored at places. He might want to try the NFL or come home. Already been at Clemson for 11 seasons, might want a new challenge soon.
I don't think he is going anywhere as long as Lawrence is there. If Saban coaches until he is 70 in 2020 and retires then. I have always thought he would retire then. Lawrence will be gone after the 2020 season.
Dabo comes to Bama and his first game as coach is against Miami. Would come full circle, since his last game at Bama was against Miami.

Nothing is certain. It's still rare for coaches to stay at the same place for 25 years. Bad seasons, scandals, family issues, NFL itch, message getting stale, etc can all happen. While I don't think it is likely the timing works out where Dabo comes to Alabama, I'm not going to say it isn't possible.

Gotta admit, that would be nice. I love Saban's approach and I'm not in any hurry for him to leave or change it, but it would've been nice to see Dabo gumping it up for us.
If the stars did happen to align, it would be a good change of pace following Saban and probably would ease that adjustment.

Maybe so maybe not, seems pretty unlikely at this point.
It's just a shame to see a guy so gumpy and so good at coaching college football not wear Crimson.
Yea I agree and have thought that for a few years now. Would he such a change he would never deal with the "well Coach Saban wouldnt have done that" because they're just different people.

I will say, while it's a longshot and would be totally unprecidented........if ever there was a guy who would leave something like he built.......
- loves Alabama openly and without giving two shits who knows it
- has a very real relationship with Saban
I still dont think it's much of a possibility at this point, but if it was ever to happen this would be the situation where it might.
Our best bet is he does a Saban and goes to the NFL for 2 years and then comes back to college. Unfortunately he'll probably consult Saban about it and be told he shouldn't do it.

I agree that it's unlikely. The most likely scenario in my opinion would be that Saban's replacement fails miserably and Dabo truly feels compelled to do the "Mama's Calling" deal.

Rather have Kitchens.

Yea I've always thought that if Dabo does come back home that he won't follow Saban, but rather be the second guy that comes back after Saban's replacement is eventually run out of town for not being Saban.

It's pretty obvious that Alabama is still "home" to Dabo. Whether that is still the case 5 or 6 years from now will determine whether he is our next coach IMO. That's why Bobby Bowden, by his own admission, didn't replace Bill Curry. Tallahassee had become home to him, so the allure of going back to Tuscaloosa wasn't there anymore.

Some ones cutting onions.
Dabo is great.Clemson is very fortunate to have had the foresight to hire him.

He was ready to take the job when Perkins left for Tampa Bay. But he was mislead by the administration at the time on how the process would go. His family was already preparing to move to Tuscaloosa before that fiasco went down.
Of course the difference there, as opposed to Dabo now, is that Bowden hadn’t won a title at Florida State at that point in time.

Don't give two shits whether Dabo ever coaches at Alabama or not. He is perfect for a place like Clemson.

Here is the issue:
Many people are already saying nobody wants to follow a legend. Knowing this, we might have to just take who we can get when Coach Saban leaves. It likely won't be a top tier guy. Might be the next rung down. It might be a Saban disciple like Pruitt, Muschamp, Cristobal, etc.
I am not advocating for any of them. However, I am interested to see how Pruitt develops at Tennessee and what he can accomplish there in the next 2 to 3 years. He inherited a mess from Butch. Hell we might end up with someone like a Mike Gundy or Gary Patterson for a few years. The world won't end. Regardless of who is hired they will have a Treasure Trove of talent to play with for a few seasons so we should be able to win for at least a short while before everything implodes post Saban.

CFB is different now than in 1983 when Coach Bryant left.
Bama won 1 NC in the 24 years between Bryant and Saban.
I think Coach Saban has built something that will be at Bama long after we're all gone.
I'm not sure Bama will ever enjoy the dominance it has under Saban.
I certainly hope so for future Bama fans.
