Eddie Jackson actually may be better suited for Star next season. He lacks the speed to keep up with burners but has the size to play as a safety. I like Cyrus and Brown with Hump coming in to spare them and in Dime while Jackson plays Star. Geno Smith at FS. Hootie Jones at SS.
Wonder how Deionte Thompson will translate to college play

Eddie is a track star. I thought he was plenty fast, he just needs experience.

No. Coates roasted him. I know everyone has a bad game and I love EJ at corner, but I like him at Star because of his length. Its the best way to get Cyrus EJ and brown all on the field. Humphrey can come in and play when we go into Dime. Put Hootie in the box at money and bring Hump in

Not bad points. EJ is definitely athletic, but where guys like TB and MH are sub 4.45 guys, EJ is probably more of a 4.55 guy, though I could be wrong.

I'd love it if he could come in and play early, but he has to learn the defense. He's in the HaHa mold. If he has the work ethic (I think he does) and gets it, he'll be a great player.

shite, my bad. I was thinking Tony Brown. I think I'm getting old.

I think his size and physicality fit well for a safety and his athleticism fits well as a corner. So Star seems logical
Especially to be able to get everyone we want on the field to play the pass. We will play the run well enough next year with our front 7. Only guys we lose that kind of hurt are DePriest and Dickson

I think he's a better cover safety than Haha. He's taller and faster as well. No offense but I always thought HCD was a bit overrated...

Well he got caught looking into the backfield a couple of times. Doesn't matter how fast you are you're not catching someone as fast as Coates after you've already been beaten.

A few quick recruiting notes
Damien Harris leaning to Bama?
One prospect that UA has in it's sights is Berea-Madision Southern, KY running back Damien Harris. The 5-10, 210-pound has had Alabama, Kentucky and Ohio State atop his list.
Alabama's Nick Saban and Ohio State's Urban Meyer both visited with Harris earlier this week. On Wednesday the Buckeyes took a commitment from Detroit running back Mike Weber. Sources say the OSU staff believes that Harris is leaning to Alabama. Harris lives just 45 minutes from the UK campus, so the Wildcats will be a factor until the end.
Harris is slated to announce his decision on January 9th.
Matt Womack
This is a position where Alabama would like to sign at least one, possibly two quality players.
One OT prospect that Alabama has been working harder the past few months is Senatobia, MS standout Matt Womack. The 6-6, 335-pound Womack, who has been a longtime LSU commit, will make his official visit to Alabama this weekend. There have been reports that Womack might flip to Ole Miss soon, but sources tell TI that Alabama is very strongly in the mix here.
In short, keep an eye on Womack. And don't be surprised if another OT or two pops up as legitimate possibilities in the coming weeks.
Kendall Sheffield
Missouri City-Ft Bend Marshall, TX head coach James Williams told TI on Wednesday that his star cornerback, Kendall Sheffield, is playing his cards very close to the vest.
"He's really not saying much right now," Williams said. "He and his dad are doing a very good job of evaluating the schools and keeping things to themselves."
The schools include Alabama, FSU, LSU and Texas A&M.
The Tide appears to be right at the top of the 5-11, 180-pound Sheffield's list. In fact, one source thinks Sheffield will follow in the footsteps of his longtime friend Tony Brown and pick Alabama.
If Sheffield were to end up elsewhere, there are a couple of other corners still highly interested in Alabama.
Tide aiming at JUCO stars
Tide defensive linemen D.J. Pettway and Jarran Reed will be hosting a couple of two former JUCO teammates on official visits this weekend as East Mississippi defensive lineman D.J. Jones and linebacker Lorenzo Phillips of East Mississippi CC in Scooba, MS will be in town.
The 6-2, 310-pound Jones is committed to FSU, but Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss remain strongly in the mix. The feeling is that Jones is a better fit for Alabama's three man front than he'd be in a four man front.
Jones is a spring enrollee, so we should know his final decision by early next week.
Jones will be joined on his Tuscaloosa visit by several family members.
The 6-2, 222-pound Phillips is a dynamic edge rusher who had 14 sacks this past season in helping EMCC to it's second straight national championship. He started his career at LSU before transferring to EMCC.
For several months TI has thought that Phillips would end up at Alabama. The only snag at this point is that he has to pass an algebra class to graduate this month. If he passes the course, we think he's headed to Tuscaloosa for the spring semester.
There's been some talk that Hutchinson, KS CC defensive end Marquavius Lewis (6-4, 270) might make an official visit to Alabama this weekend, but he has not confirmed that with TI as of yet.
Lewis, who is an excellent pass rusher, is originally from Greenwood, SC. He's committed to South Carolina.
Before all is said and done, we think a few more JUCO stars might emerge as possibilities. That could partly depend on Jones and Phillips. But word is that some other elite junior college standouts are very interested in UA.

You missed my boy J Cook who actually has gotten some game experience this yr and I could see as a more dedicated S role
I like Hootie to take on training the younger guys, this yr seemed a little like the "lean on LC26, and let rotate the seniors to run blanket coverage" and not having high impact guys, they are all learning, but it's coming for sure

I don't remember seeing much of J Cook but Jabriel Washington seemed to have carved out a small role with the 1st team defense.

He came in on 2nd and 3rd string D some
You gotta think we are losing both starting dedicated safeties, it will be a wide open competition

With the depth at CB, I think using Geno Smith as a FS and moving a corner who can play star the best and would normally start at CB should be the answer. My prediction is
Cyrus Jones and Tony Brown at CB
Eddie Jackson at Star
Geno Smith at FS and Hootie Jones at SS
Marlon Humphrey comes in at CB with Tony Brown in Dime. Cyrus moves over to Star. Eddie Jackson shifts back to Safety. Geno Smith stays back at FS. Hootie Jones plays money. Deionte Thompson will make things interesting though
