It’s sad. We’ll probably never get a new arena.
How does the cost keep going up despite cutting down on the project? Materials? How about we just cancel the part where we encase the stadium in glass?
Meanwhile we are stuck with that shitty contract with Nike that left $100 million on the table.

Apparently the biggest factor is the quick turnaround, which obviously just get quicker the longer we wait. The very constricted construction time period (can't start until November 2019, have to be ribbon cutting by August 2020) seems to be causing contractors across the board to significantly put in bumper costs.
To be frank, they should have budgeted for that given the aggressive timeline. It's pretty standard and I'm not sure why we didn't see this coming.

I'm fairly certain the exterior glass was removed from scope last go-around.

That’s an insane number for just some updates. I guess if you have it; spend it. Good for the economy and good for our football program. I believe a good AD would call up Nike and tell them that we either renegotiate our current deal and start paying us market value OR if not, once the contract expires we WILL NOT resign with Nike. So if you want us then, you better pay us now.

with projects you bid like this there are three options
Fast
Good
Cheap
You can only pick two.

Why can't we just make modest improvements to BDS and use that money for a new basketball facility?

Anyone how much they have raised from when the capital campaign was started?

It's going to take big money people demanding that their donations be earmarked for basketball, and that's super unlikely to happen. I had hoped that Byrne would have had enough foresight to address the arena, but to this point he's shown little desire to make it happen.

I don’t understand why the Coleman reno wasn’t first on the agenda. Force the boosters to pay for the Coleman upgrade before their beloved Bryant-Denny gets their unnecessary and expensive improvements.
I said this a while back, but it was obvious that the BD reno was going over budget and that it was likely going to come out of the Coleman reno budget. I’ll be surprised if the Coleman plans are started in the next five years unless it’s at about half of the planned budget. I’ll also be surprised if it’s not the game environment changes like reduced capacity and acoustical improvements that get axed while the money earners like the indoor food court area stays the course.
If you can’t tell, I’m slightly pessimistic when it comes to Coleman improvements. It’s needed a decent reno for decades and they’ve put it off this long, what’s another decade?

When AD Byrne spoke to the A club and REC members following the final scrimmage, he mentioned that the total was somewhere around the $200-$250 million range.

Byrne isn’t making the impact for basketball I thought he would.

Boosters being incentivized with Football upgrades to help support other athletics isn’t anything new. We’ve needed a Coleman reno for decades so it’s clear that’s not been high on the booster request list. Not sure what’s so hard to understand here....

Tell me more about your socialist plan to hold the boosters hostage because they don't care about basketball.
I really love it when people feel they are entitled to other peoples money, I'm sure they do as well.

It's a shitty and corrupt sport that most people don't care about it. I really don't understand why people care about a game that is so easily manipulated by refs.
Really the only thing he can do is make a good hire that can draw some interest towards it.
People can down vote me for it all they want, but at the end of the day they are not entitled to other peoples money nor does it make them some kind of "true fan" because they happen to like another sport.
Plus, from what I see in basketball a new arena isn't going to accomplish much. You gotta make them "strong arse offers" and I hope Alabama doesn't even remotely get good in that case.

Construction projects like this always go over original quote/estimate. And always due to some quasi bogus reason like this.
IMO, just someone trying to make a good bit extra.
