I thought this player was going to be a real playa for the Tide. Best of luck to him.

He was the backup Center and heir apparent until he broke his leg.
Hard to maintain that spot when you lose almost a season of work...

Is that what happened to Petitbon, too? The kid went from possibly starting his Freshman year to never being heard from again after he got hurt. Was his injury that severe he wasn't able to fully recover?

Yep.
Think his was an ACL in the Spring a few years ago that set him back. He actually got back on the field late that year, but he lost any footing he had.
He went from pushing for a starting spot to solidly on the 3rd string...

speaking of trimming the fat. Doc said I gained a pound in 3 months when I have been so good at my diet. I am a man. I am 40. Come after me.

A true freshman will likely be the backup center this year. He is pretty good though.

Wonder what that puts the number at now on overall schollies?
I'm pretty sure Warmack and Kennedy leaving puts UA's fall roster at 84 scholarship players, including incoming Juco transfer Tevita Musika.
ETA: Best wishes to Brandon, Dallas and all Bama players who end up transfering.

If Bama gives a transfer a scholarship, want it count as part of this years signing class and reduce the number of recruits Bama can sign next year?
If so, a senior walk on will probably get a scholarship.
I saw somewhere on this board, that the 2 blueshirts from last year wouldn't count against the 85 man limit until this year. If that is true, one more player needs to leave to make room for this year's recruiting class.

Another article with a few more detais:
Report: Reserve lineman Brandon Kennedy to transfer from Alabama (BamaOnLine)
Report: Reserve lineman Brandon Kennedy to transfer from Alabama (BamaOnLine)
quote:
Another Alabama offensive lineman is reportedly leaving the football program.
Redshirt sophomore Brandon Kennedy is transferring, according to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz. The reserve lineman will be immediately eligible at his next stop as a graduate transfer.
Kennedy was the Crimson Tide’s backup center a season ago and during the team’s 15 spring practices. Last year, he saw action in three games off the bench against Fresno State, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss but suffered a season-ending foot injury early in the year that limited his playing time. Because of that, Kennedy received a medical redshirt at season’s end.
The Wetumpka, Ala., native played in seven games as a redshirt freshman in 2016. He saw his first career action in the season opener versus USC, playing six snaps in the fourth quarter.
Kennedy is the second reserve offensive lineman to transfer from Alabama of late, joining Dallas Warmack. Like Warmack, Kennedy was part of the Crimson Tide’s 2015 recruiting class. With them leaving, only nine of the 24 members of that class are still at UA.
Kennedy, Warmack and linebacker Mekhi Brown have all transferred this offseason.
A 4-star prospect out of Wetumpka High School, Kennedy was the No. 10-ranked player in the state of Alabama, the No. 19 offensive guard and No. 296 overall prospect in the 2015 recruiting cycle, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings.
With the two linemen transfers, Alabama will have 16 offensive linemen on its roster for 2018 after its two signees from its 2018 signing class arrive on the Tide campus this summer.

Good catch on the PWO grad transfer kicker. Yes, if he got a scholarship, it would cost us an Initial Counter spot. So it's very doubtful he'll get one. I edited my above post accordingly.
Joseph Bulovas and Hunter Bannon are already on scholarship and accounted for within the 85 total scholarships limit, according to this:
2018 Roster Breakdown (85-man)
According to that info, we're now sitting at 84 on scholarship for the fall season. In other words, no more attrition is needed, nor was Kennedy's departure needed.

Ok cool. I'm still thinking Kief will transfer out. Probably to Ohio or somewhere else closer to his home.

In the 2017 recruiting cycle we "took" 3 more players than we had room for under the NCAA's 25 "Initial Counters" yearly class size limit. But, we had room for two of them under the 85 total scholarships limit. In that situation, two players can blueshirt -- meaning they can get those two scholarships, enroll and practice with the team, but they were not eligible to play until the 2018 recruiting cycle provided 25 more IC spots to count them against. Joseph Bulovas and Hunter Brannon were the two blueshirts. The 3rd player, Jarez Parks was greyshirted -- i.e., his enrollment was delayed until December 2017.

I am sure he will make another team a fine guard next season.

Maybe Tennessee:
Rivals: Five available grad transfers that will impact the 2018 season
quote:
Brandon Kennedy, 6-2/293 OC, Alabama
As a recruit: Kennedy had an impressive list of scholarship offers, but elected to stay close to home and play for the Tide over other Auburn and Clemson.
As a Crimson Tide: Kennedy redshirted his first year on campus before playing in seven games as a backup in 2016. He started the 2017 season as Alabama’s backup center, but a foot injury prematurely ended his season after only three appearances. Kennedy announced his intention to transfer earlier this month and will have at least two years of eligibility remaining.
Schools in the mix: Tennessee
Farrell’s take: Kennedy is similar to Warmack in a lot of ways although he didn’t have the same footwork. He wasn’t tall but could handle himself in a phone booth and looked to be a very good offensive guard or center for Alabama with some work. He can now live up to that potential someplace else.
