If Bama does miss the playoffs do you see any players skipping the bowl game? I ask because I cought the tail end of a call on the Mark Packer show on XM and it sounded like they were talking about a Bama player.

I would expect every junior with a decent draft grade would sit out. why wouldn't they?

Of course. Pretty much all the 1st rounders and maybe 1 or 2 2nd rounders will most likely sit.

Nobody cares about bowl games anymore.

I think this will be the normal for all teams.. College football as we have known in the past is dead. It was a lot of factors though.. Transfer Portal, entitlment, recruiting on a national level. A lot of kids now days were never fans of the team they play for.. they don't have the same feel or loyalty as the fans. The jersey is just a stepping stone to go pro.. comes with the success. Also kids in general are not the same as they were in the past.. These kids want socialism for God Sakes..in the past they stormed the beaches against it. They set long term goals, but want the outcome now... they were born into a world of technology where everything is right this now.. and 30 seconds later its old news. Social media helped with that. Its whats trending that cool and in.. not who is grinding. I see it daily as a high school Coach.

To be honest I don't blame the kids like some do.. its the world we brought them into. In the world of 100 million dollar athlete's why would you risk it.

These kids are very self entitled now but it starts long before they get here. You are right due to social media and recruiting stalkers they are stars long before they get on campus. The problem is no one cares once they get here until they prove they belong. All this you are great and grown adults begging them to come here is sad because the reality is these same adults only care if they produce on the field. If you don't they move on to the next one. So yes many of these kids do not understand what it means to work hard and have to earn it. When it does not come so easy for them they look for the easy way out. One of the reasons we seem to miss on so many we offer. Because not everyone is able to play for Saban. Just like so many coaches who leave.

For the bowl games with the exception of the NY6 and the playoffs who really gives a shite. It is sad that average gets to the post season. Teams and coaches strive to go 6-6 just to make a bowl. Most of those teams pay more then they make going to it and the stands are empty. In the future we will probably see 5-7 gets you eligible. To be honest they need to get rid of 90% of the bowl games.

You are right about kids being entitled but the people we are talking about in this thread are adults. These adults will make a business decision to sit out a meaningless NY6 game, so to insure himself generational wealth.
Ruggs, Smith, Jeudy, should not play. Hope they dont play.
JW, AL, and najee will improve their grade in the bowl, but I can't blame them if they want to sit out either.
After the Auburn game it's the combine then the draft no need to risk it. They have done more than enough for themselves and the university

This pretty much. I hope our guys get paid. Let the youngins get a chance to play on a bigger stage. I think it is fun that way.

Yeah it was different 20 years ago and even then only 3 or 4 bowls really mattered. No reason for these guys to risk their future in a meaningless exhibition game probably against some team looking to make a name for themselves by beating Alabama.

Jeudy for sure.
Maybe Ruggs.

Don't really see anyone else as a sure fire 1st rounder. They could all help their draft status by playing.

I want us to get Utah and beat the ever living shite out of them... but something tells me we won’t get that matchup.

I listened to the show today and they were not talking about a specific player, but asking if we miss the playoffs, how many juniors would sit for the bowl game. It. could be quite a few on offense. Then they went on to basically encourage the behavior.

Seems rare an SEC team gets a Pac 12 match up. Would have loved to play Oregon or Utah. We will probably get OU or Baylor. If we end up getting some trash ACC school it will be a nice end cap on one of the most boring College Football years ive experienced in the Saban era.

If you choose not to play in the bowl game you should have to stay home and not get the bowl gifts either.

Yes I do expect draft eligible players to sit out the bowl game and I personally can’t blame them one bit. We will probably get Utah again and it’ll be fricken 2009 Sugar Bowl all over again. A highly motivated Utah against a flat, uninterested Bama.

or

Cotton Bowl versus Memphis

UVA would be a good matchup for us I think. Memphis would be tougher just because they would be the mid major looking for a trophy win.
