Take those last 2 names off that list right now.

Just mentioned in the other thread that this would be a nice fit with Milroe at QB.

Jeff Lebby - May be an interesting copycat hire to emulate success Vols had on offense in 2022

Dan Mullen - Probably a great scheme fit but not a personality fit

Joe Brady - His offensive style is a good way to get your quarterback killed. Way too much 5-man protect.

Brian Johnson - Similar scheme to Mullen without the baggage.

Kliff Kingsbury - He will wait for another head job imo. Also too busy doing sex tourism in Thailand.

Jeff Scott - Clemson's offense is effective but never been strong at OL. Hopefully that is a Dabo specific problem.

Greg Roman - This could be a BOB-esque hire but it also may end up working surprisingly well. Always felt Roman called a pro offense like a college coordinator...maybe he'd do well here. Could be a disaster.

Derek Dooley - LOL.

Someone already edited Dooley's wikipedia page to say alabama offensive coordinator. I really hope these coordinator searches don't drag out.

I don't understand why people would not be ok with Greg Roman but be ok with Kliff Kingsbury. Romans offenses for the last 4 years have been better than the Cardinals overall. I get not wanting either but wanting Kliff but not wanting Roman seems crazy to me.

The thing about Greg Roman is his offense was not very WR friendly in the NFL. If that held in the SEC then we better damn well hope we sign the next Brock Bowers at TE.

He would have to adapt to the Bama playbook so it couldn't look the same, he would only be able to add wrinkles.

His offense for the Ravens is centered around Lamar's abilities. His 49ers and Bills offenses looked nothing like what is being done in Baltimore. That is why he got so much praise at the beginning of his tenure, because they were building an offense around Lamar's strengths.

This doesn't mean they should hire him, but what he does with the Ravens is not a system he takes from job to job. He has done well at 2 stops in my opinion (49ers and Ravens) at adapting to his talent l, although best on what I am hearing from Ravens fans it went sideways this year.

ETA: Looking at their schedule and stats the offense went south when Lamar stopped playing which is what you would expect if you build an offense under a unique talent and have Tyler Huntley as a back up.

Y’all do not want Greg Roman, I’m telling you. I’ve watched every play he’s called in his time with the Ravens. He’s no more imaginative than BOB. He may be even less imaginative. He certainly doesn’t do anything special with the receivers, granted the Ravens didn’t have a great receiver room, but still.

Brian Johnson is the only guy on this list I wouldn't have major reservations about. I think he's a really good coach with a solid track record. Kingsbury is discount brand Kiffin, which would still be a massive improvement over BooB, but one good season and he's gone. Lebby might be OK, but OU's offense did the whole random disappearing act that we pulled the last couple of years. Jeff Scott was an epic disaster as a HC so he would probably stick around for a while, but would we end up wanting him to? Clemson's offense is really simplistic and nothing they did under him and Elliot was particularly impressive from an Xs and Os standpoint. Still, we have the talent to pull off that kind of system.

I think the rest of these guys would be outright terrible hires though. Mullen is a cancer. Brady is an overrated bum who has only made it as far as he has because of stepping into an offense that was full of NFL All-Pro talent. If we hire Roman or Doolander...well thank God for Nate Oats I guess.

Shrug. Again I will take a Ravens fans word for it cause I haven't paid much attention to them. He did a lot of good stuff with the Niners and being creative with Alex Smith and Kapernick but that was nearly a decade ago so it sounds like he has lost it.

He is still more productive and more successful that Kliff.

Roman isn’t someone I would classify as terrible, but he just doesn’t do anything that I feel would make our offense very dynamic. I think he’s fallen off in the last few years. Maybe part of that is because of all of the injuries the Ravens have had the last few years since Lamar’s MVP season in 2019, but I don’t want Alabama to take the risk that Roman’s shortcomings were because of personnel and not his offense/playcalling.

Fair enough. I don't want Roman I just think it is crazy people think he is a worse option that Kingsbury. Kingsbury comes from a different offensive tree and has been mediocre or bad pretty much everywhere sans his stats. He has never been as good as Mike Leach (RIP) and I doubt anyone would have been excited if he was ever considered for OC.

I don't know much about Roman, but I would definitely say that wanting Kingsbury is absolute craziness.

Stay away from OCs with a long history of NFL time. The more flexible and innovative minds are at the college ranks.

Brian Johnson might be the most likely hire among those listed candidates. He seems like a really good fit to me.
