I have plenty of entertainment besides watching Bama play.
Slalom water skiing on smith lake up to about the 1st wk in October. But my 52 yr old shoulder gets to aching after a full day of it.
I enjoy pissing off the neighbors when I pull out my 70 Z28 and show my arse.
Then time to time go horseback riding with my wife and her friends. I can’t ride worth a shite but they get a good laugh about it.
We usually have lake parties into November. Build a big fire play volleyball and horseshoes. Have a fish fry, drink beer sit around and bullshite with friends
Hell man... there’s plenty of things to do in the great state of Alabama. Just got to get off your dead arse and find it

If the things you find to do in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and the Redneck Riviera are the only things you consider fun then there's nothing to do in Alabama.
For a lot of us, if most of the things 'to do' in those places we wouldn't even notice they were gone.

You couldn’t pay me to live in Atlanta. Nothing about that place is appealing

Well, it's not like you hoity-toity city folk are going to be hitting up symphonies, plays, movies, concerts, music festivals, pro sports events, etc. this fall, either.
Alabama has more lakes, rivers, parks, forests, beaches, golf courses, hiking/biking trails, etc. than most places, and that's going to be the primary source of entertainment for many folks at this point in time. And we have the internet here, too, or so I'm told.

Dude - stop shitting on people's life choices. In my life I have lived in northern Virginia/DC, NYC, Dallas, and southern California.
Every time I go back to Birmingham to visit my family I wish I could move back. It's probably too late for me now but you begin to appreciate a slower, more peaceful way of life after awhile.

Really struck a nerve with this crowd. Geez. Just pointing out the fact that if Alabama football went by the wayside in the year 2020, the demand wouldn't fall. In fact, I think it would intensify.
As for beaches, forests, parks, golf, hiking, hanging by the lake, etc... I'm glad there are those activities in the state.
How lucky must Alabama be to be the only one in the south with those amenities, much less the rest of the union?

With a conference canceling a football season, I wonder if that would give a school the ability to get out of any contract that was signed with a conference?
Nebraska or any other school could say that the massive loss of revenue severely hurt their school. I'm sure some lawyer could use the cancellation of a football season by a conference to get out of a contract. Especially, if other conferences play.

It helps Nebraska that the state government leadership is behind them doing all they can to play this season. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing is going on in Ohio.

Nobody is saying that other places don't have that. You are the one saying that Alabama is such a backwards place where we can't enjoy anything but bama football. What is your deal?

I never said that. I said it's the premier entertainment outlet in the state, and there isn't a metric: dollar-spend, news outlet, or advertising share that someone would be able to produce to make me think otherwise.
Everyone here is all about, "it just means more," and when someone says - "Alabama is the premier entertainment product in the state - demand will be high regardless of the season being played," there are tears?
Holy heck, there's an actual documentary ESPN produced that highlights the state's love affair with college football. Relax.

Do everyone a favor and just cut your losses in this thread and bail out.

quote:No, you definitely didn't. If you had simply said it's the preeminent source of entertainment for residents in the fall, nobody here would've taken exception. Instead you said:

quote:This intimates, if not outright states, that there is literally nothing else to do to capture the mind's attention in the fall outside of CFB.
We've all been to Alabama - there isn't any competition for fun in the state outside these teenage kids playing ball on Saturdays in the fall.

I’ve lived in Maryland, California, Mississippi and GA. Birmingham has always been the best place I’ve lived. Although beach life is good. I have to admit.

No, they didn't cancel, they postponed. Big difference. It will be more difficult for a player to transfer and get an immediate waiver since they didn't cancel. But what changes in the spring? Not a damn thing.
I skeptical that a spring season will happen. I think the SEC, Big12 and ACC will play this fall. The B1G and PAC12 might've shite their pants.

If we get the season in with no major disruptions that's exactly what will happen. There is a lot about this that we don't know but why not just wait it out a little. The best move for these 2 conferences was to follow the SEC lead if they still had major misgivings. Delay the season a little and see how school goes, the NFL goes, life goes. You certainly get the feeling that the players and some football programs wished they had waited it out a little longer.
If the other conferences end up doing the same later on, I just think it will be more obvious to one and all it was the right call. But if they get through the schedule, wow, that's going to leave a mark on these 2 conferences that bailed.

Well if all goes well and the SEC, ACC, and Big XII start playing football in September, what does the B1G and PAC do then? Do they flip flop at the beginning of September and try to start late along or a little after the SEC? Do they stand pat on Spring? Either way they look stupid unless something goes wrong for the others. They really shot themselves in the foot going off half-cocked like they did.

The B1G is all in on this one. They just reminded Nebraska to get back in your place. You aren't playing football anywhere. They are listening to their medical staff. Not players, not coaches, not Universities apparently. They will either be very right or forever explaining this decision.

What's baffling and not a good look is they just quit without trying. It seems cowardly.
The SEC, ACC, and Big 12 may not make it work but at least they are trying. I appreciate that effort and know the players do.
