Per Sideline reporter MNF: Dabo said " Jacobs best Alabama player he faced " !

Yet only 11 carries in the championship game

I hate Gruden so much. If he slams Jacobs into the line 1 more times and punts I am going to lose it.

Jacobs first player with a 100 yards from scrimmage and 2 rushing TDs in his debut since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2001.

Jacobs had a fabulous game. His career out of High School to now seems so surreal.
Hard to believe. Hope he has a long injury free career.

So underutilized last year at Bama.

Ingram, Henry, and Jacobs in week 1:
384 yards from scrimmage, 4 touchdowns.

Remember though, Bama RBs are terrible in the NFL. Just wait until 1.4nette takes over the league.

Unfortunately I think last season was an example of short term sacrifice in the name of long term roster management. Damien and Jacobs probably should have gotten the vast majority of the meaningful playing time, but if Najee hadn't gotten carries last year he would have transferred. Then we'd be down to Robinson, Ford, and 2 freshmen, one of whom is out for the season.

Najee had about as many carries as Jacobs last year, and had about a yard and a half more ypc.

Sony Michel went 15 carries for 14 yards with New England last week. Damien DNP'd but I'm hoping he gets a look if Michel is going to have output like that.
I wish Yeldon's career could have went differently. Being draft to the Jags a couple of years before Fournette I believe really stunted his career. Then he got caught up with all the Tom Coughlin stuff and he was out the door. Don't get me wrong he is 3rd string on the Bills based on his current production but things might have been so much better for him had he initial landed somewhere else.
Drake and Minkah got get out of Miami. Smh

I should let it go, but I just can't.
What it the world would you have done differently last year? Let's look at a few facts.
First, and most importantly, before the SECCG Bama's closest game had a final margin of 22 points. Why would you NOT share the wealth and keep everyone healthy?
Second, Jacobs had the lowest YPC of the three main backs last season. Najee averaged 6.7 on 117 carries, Damien averaged 5.8 on 150, Jacobs managed 5.3 on 120.
The one thing Jacobs brought to the table was versatility. He was vastly superior as a receiver and was used in that role a lot - but using him more in that role would mean taking the ball out of the hands of receivers that will also be playing on Sunday next year. Is that something you'd really want to do?
Finally, someone bemoaned the fact that Jacobs only got 11 carries in the title game. What needs to be considered is that those 11 carries tied for team high with D. Harris but Jacobs' 47 yards were 3rd lowest on the team - 10 yards less than D. Harris got on the same number of carries and 12 yards less than Najee got on only 9 carries. Again, based on pure performance Jacobs was by far the least effective back that night.
Jacobs was a great college back and he's got the skill set to be a great pro back too, but let's not go all revisionist history and act like we sat Bo Jackson so we could give carries to Joe Dudek.

Jacobs was used much more then the other RB in short yardage situations last year, which brought down his ypc. When Bama needed the yards, they put their best back in.

That's a nice theory, unfortunately even if true it doesn't explain a 1.4 ypc carry difference between him and Najee.
Even more unfortunately, it isn't true when compared to Damien Harris.
Damien Harris had 12 carries on 3rd and 4th down (8 on 3rd, 4 on 4th).
Josh Jacobs had 13 on the same downs (12 on 3rd, 1 on 4th).
Najee only had 4 carries on 3rd down and none on 4th.
When you take distance into account, Damien had 18 carries where the distance to gain was 2 yards or less (9 of them on 3rd or 4th down). Josh had 16 in the same scenario with an identical 9 coming on 3rd or 4th down.
There's a difference of 1 carry in favor of Jacobs in short yardage situations on 3rd or 4th down. Based on numbers it doesn't look like the staff favored on of them over the other. If you can read anything into the numbers, they were more likely to use Damien on 4th down.
Jacobs splits
Damien Harris splits
Najee Harris splits
Jacobs was a great back for Bama and he has an even better life story so it is easy to let our memory play tricks on us but the facts simply don't lie.
