Why can we not go out and get one of the best punters?

Skylar DeLong was 247’s #4 rated (nationally) punter in 2018 when Bama signed him.

It wasn’t a case of the staff saying screw it, punting will work itself out. They went out and got what was supposed to be a stud. Not sure how you’re supposed to know they won’t be able to handle the pressure once they get here.

Does anyone have an update on Deonte Brown? Is he good for MSU?

Saban provides postgame updates on Jaylen Waddle, Deonte Brown (from prior page). He'll probably provide another update today.

Just a thought, but Pruitt looks like he's regressing. He has seemed totally confused most of the time with that unnatural love affair going on with JT. But his defense is giving up a ton of points and not just by the big boys and the running game seems to have precious little identity as well. Hearing him talk about the gap closing between them and Bama after this pillage and having mercy extended during the 4th quarter again was dumbfounding. Is he just over his head?

Losses by 21+ points in their first 30 games as Tennessee’s head coach:

Jeremy Pruitt 12
Butch Jones 6
Derek Dooley 6

Treading water. UT needs wins. But back half of 2020 schedule ain't as easy as usual. Looks like best case is probably 3-2, worst case 1-4. Losing bigly to UK at home was a huge OOF!

Is treading water code for an ill-advised contract extension a couple of months ago?

I agree, the schedule is no friend. At this point, at Arkansas seems daunting enough but TAMU, Florida, the barn, not your typical end of season cakewalk for the vols. carving out 3 or even 4 wins this season will make the natives even more restless.

I’ve noticed we stunt the DL a lot and that takes a little bit of time to develop; we seem to get decent pressure when we just go after the QB.

Its the system were using as the defensive calls are made for the DT's and DL to slant bad angles as a group.
Ive seen plays were or DT are easily turned side ways because we ask then to take an angle guessing were the play is headed.
Its our DC that's making calls trying to guess which way every play is going instead of keeping plays in the box.
We seem to do better asking then to shoot gaps or win one on one battles.

Remember Saban saying last yr that 58 had a bad habit of free lancing instead of doing what was called.
It confused the kids when they all realize we can beat our man and get to the ball.
Ive been hard on 94 for not having an impact, but after watching all our games 2 times .
I see there times he 94 takes the angled called and gives up the main thing he has, which is a strong lower base.
He should never be asked to take slant angles.
I still dont think he should start, but its based more on 48,58,47,92 all being better.

But if your gonna do that slanting then do it the way Clemson does with some man over a man 5 man fronts mixed in.

Ive posted several times that 58,48,47, are much better beating there man and getting up field.
I think we put to much weight on 18,92 the last two yrs and now we look faster up front with both lighter.
But were making bad line calls and need to keep it simple ,with the back end mix in zone and cover two.
I am not sure our safeties are fast enough to have one safety high.I am still shocked Eddie smith who has range is not nowhere in the mix?
I think it would be interesting to see this team with a more aggressive at attacking defense,
but I think more zone is needed because the back end safety s are a legibility.

Note:
right now we are weak up the middle from 94,32,3,29.
I feel 29 should be hybrid s/lb in a base nickle and middle on dimes.

Yes. It doesn't help that basically everyone on their team who is worth a damn is a sophomore or freshman and their QB's only skill is throwing the deep fade down the sideline. I think he gets one more year with a different QB and new OC if he's lucky. If they finish 3-7 he's probably gone though.

May be the case. Some position guys aren't cut out to be coordinators and some coordinators aren't cut out for the HC position. A LOT more on your plate to digest when you are sitting in the HC seat. Dealing with and having that fat tub of shite Fulmer as your boss can't help matters either. I've said it before, Pruitt had better watch his back because Fat Phil will be quick to sink that knife in his back. Hell, he did it to Johnny Majors when Majors had a damn heart attack!!!

He had better get Vandy and Arkansas to make 4 then. As far as my morbid curiosity going forward is to watch the next time they get adversity slammed in their face by a team not considered their equal and see if they just plain quit. The hogs at home seem like the perfect candidate.

Yeah I think they can win 2-3 more games if they keep playing hard. If they quit they may only beat Vandy though. That's why I didn't understand their strategy against us. The players have to know that the coaches were gameplanning to avoid losing by 50 and still managed to lose by 31. I mean running the ball on 3rd and 7 at our 45 before punting when you're down by 4 TDs? That's just fricking gutless. It's far more likely that they quit on the coaches now than it would have been if they had thrown the kitchen sink at us and lost by 60.

Post-surgery update today:

Saban: Ankle injury to Jaylen Waddle like 'losing Allen Iverson' (BOL)

Let's all pray for Jaylen's full recovery!

Im even more impressed with Mac. His news conference today was all business and the guy gets it. Do your job or STFU was basically his message. I bet he doesn’t let people slack on the field.

Bama can still win a Natty without Waddle. People forget that Clemson lost their best receiver before the season even started.

Bama still has their best receiver.
