Social media was abuzz Friday after a Facebook post by Pastor’s Kitchen hinted at the return of Bama-Bino Pizza.

The popular pizza restaurant closed nearly 30 years ago, but is still remembered by many Tuscaloosa residents and students who attended the University of Alabama during the 1980s.

Fran Viselli III wrote on Facebook that his father is working with Pastor’s Kitchen to “possibly” bring the pizza to their restaurant. Pastor’s posted a “maybe” to enthusiastic and hopeful reactions to the post.

The cryptic “Stay tuned, Get excited, BIG things are cooking” message was posted at 7:17 p.m. Thursday.

Bama-Bino’s pizza recipe came from owner Fran Viselli Jr.’s grandmother. The business operated four restaurants in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham between August 1980 and October 1991, and a mobile unit called the Rolling Pizza Party that distributed fresh-baked pizza around town.

My sophomore year at Alabama, there were four of us in a flat. One from Michigan, one from South Carolina, one one from Arab, and me from Mobile. And that was 2003. It’s worse than that now.

My sophomore-senior years at Alabama, I was in a duplex with me from Tuscaloosa and others were from the Atlanta metro area.

My current roommates are from Tennessee and Florida. Our friends across from us are from Texas, Georgia and 2 from Chicago. My gf and her roommate are from NC. I have basically one friend from instate and we went to the same HS. It’s insane.

It’s done. The absence of Bama-Bino is gone. Unless of course it’s not, which is possible and in that case, I will disavow and remind you that I only passed on what said sauces said and will merge this thread.

Well, my daughter may be from out of state, but Daddy has already indoctrinated her when i saw this thread title. Bama-Bino’s was the bomb back in the mid to late 80’s. I ate many a pizza on a drunken weekend night. There was also a place that served a deep dish pizza that was about 2 inches thick and it was incredible. It was only about 8 or 10 inches across and you thought you could wipe it out but about 2 pieces would stuff me like a Thanksgiving Turkey. Anybody remember who that was?
