Nope. Ole Miss is considered the heavy favorite.

You're talking about Jamal Murray, but there is also Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Two of the better young players in the league right now, both are Canadian and both went to Kentucky and were lottery picks.
They also had Trey Lyles during that time, not as talented of a player obv, but another Canadian lottery pick who is a solid player in the league.

Good ball handler and shooter to be 6'11. Looks like he has the potential to be an elite shot blocker. Would want.

Oats and Pettway are both in Bham watching JD Davison's game tonight.

J.D. Davison leads Calhoun past Red Bay in 2A boys semifinals
quote:
Mr. Basketball candidate J.D. Davison led Calhoun to a victory over Red Bay tonight in the Class 2A boys state semifinals.
Davison finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, five steals and three blocked shots -- with Alabama coach Nate Oats and assistant Antoine Pettway seated behind Calhoun’s bench --as the Tigers won 46-30 at the BJCC’s Legacy Arena in Birmingham.

Davison would be a great addition Fever.
This PG poured in 43 points in the regional final to get to Bham.
Phenomenal do it all game in the semi's tonight.

I agree, he is at the top of my wish-list for this class. Good all around player. He had a quadruple double a couple of weeks ago and almost got another one the other night.

I obviously haven't been paying close attention, but I didn't realize that it was another relatively weak year for the state, outside of Davison:
LINK
Doesn't seem like there's another obvious SEC prospect in the entire state. And that's after this year when the Mountain Brook PG was the number 1 ranked player in the state. Pretty sparse.
Seems strange that there's just not much in the way of any major college prospects coming out of the Birmingham area, or Huntsville/Madison, or Montgomery, or Mobile, etc.

Tennessee seems loaded for the 2021 class.
Dunno what the main causes are but I guess Alabama suffers from poor basketball infrastructure (scouting, coaching, etc.). Hard to imagine the average 'bama h.s. coach is on the level of an a typical Indiana h.s. coach.

Cecil quote tweeted a post that showed all the crystal balls for Primo to Bama and said:
We just can’t catch a fricking break. He must know something

I don't think Cecil knows where Primo is going to commit.
Primo hasn't even visited Oregon or Ohio State and said he doesn't plan to, it's between us and Creighton unless something changes.
If for some reason the 10 people who have put crystal balls in for Primo who keep up with recruiting as a job, unlike Cecil, turn out to be wrong, Ellis wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.

Cecil knows more than folks give him credit for. Take off the crimson glasses and look at things,
If I was a guard coming out of high school, I’d want to play for Oats. I’m a Bama fan though and have bias. If you want to win a championship then where would you go?

He isn't gonna come any closer to winning a championship at Creighton than he is here. I know Cecil knows things, but I don't think he has some kind of main line to Primo that he knows where he is going to commit. In this instance I'm trusting the recruiting guys who actually talk to Primo.
If Primo does commit somewhere else I'll freak out then, but I'm not gonna freak out over it now based on this.

Are you trusting the recruiting guys because they favor Bama or do you think they have 8nside 8nfo

I'd think that Sexton and probably Kira being first round prospects would be a bigger draw than what team makes the NCAAT this year. Again, I don't know where Primo will commit but he said this not a week ago.
Maybe Cecil was just spit-balling and making a point other than having concrete evidence that Primo isn't coming here? As I said, I'll reserve my freaking for now.
quote:
100 percent of the predictions currently favor the Crimson Tide for the No. 7 combo guard and the No. 27 overall player, per 247Sports.
“Definitely the playing style because I feel like it’s just somewhere I can be free to make decisions,” Primo told BamaOnLine. “I think I play my best when I play with creativity, not always just bound to a certain system. I think that would be the biggest thing — having the ability to create and be free.”
Nate Oats' message to Primo is come be a part of something great.
“They said they’re making me a priority and they’re trying to make something great with me JQ and possibly Kira if he doesn’t go to the NBA. They think that with us three it could be a really great combo.”

I mean they cover recruiting as a job, unlike Cecil so I give them more credence on where a recruit will sign. It's not just Bama guys that have crystal balled him to Alabama, it's most of the national guys. Could something have changed since then that Cecil knows about? Maybe? Could Cecil just be tweeting a random thought that it's not a great look that we aren't in the NCAAT and the other finalist will be?

Someone replied to Cecil that an offense that would fit Primo's skillset perfectly would likely be a bigger factor than who makes the NCAAT this year and Cecil replied...

You may be correct. Certainly would be good for Alabama if it works out that way.
