No. 22 Alabama Baseball Defeats Jacksonville State, 5-2

Alabama baseball improved to 4-0 on Tuesday night as the Crimson Tide beat Jacksonville State on the road, 3-2.

In his first outing of the season, redshirt-senior right-handed pitcher William Freeman threw for an even four innings and allowed one run off of four hits. Freeman also struck out five batters and walked none.

Alabama jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a leadoff solo home run by sophomore left fielder Peyton Wilson in the top of the first. However, Jacksonville State was able to tie the game in the bottom of the second off of a double by junior shortstop Isaac Alexander.

In the top of the fifth, Crimson Tide redshirt-sophomore catcher Sam Praytor launched a home run over the left field fence, scoring himself and sophomore designated fielder Owen Diodati to give Alabama a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the inning, the Gamecocks cut the Crimson Tide lead to one run with a solo home run by senior center fielder Tre Kirklin.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, sophomore right fielder Will Hamiter singled to right field adding two more runs to the Alabama lead and making the score 5-2. Jacksonville State would not be able to add any more runs, and the Crimson Tide won the game.

Redshirt-sophomore pitcher Landon Green (1-0), who replaced Freeman in the fourth, was credited with the win for the Crimson Tide. Green pitched a total of two and two-thirds innings and allowed one run off of one hit, struck out three and walked two. Junior closer Chase Lee earned his first save of the season.

Alex Luigs was saddled with the loss for Jacksonville State (0-1).

Alabama baseball returns to Tuscaloosa on Wednesday for a one-off game against UT-Martin (3 p.m. CT, SEC Network+).

Pair of Home Runs, Two-RBI Single Power Baseball to 5-2 Win at Jacksonville State

Wilson and Praytor homered to get three for UA with Hamiter’s two-RBI single putting the game out of reach

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Alabama leaned on the long ball early and used a seventh-inning two-RBI single from William Hamiter to put the game out of reach as the Crimson Tide downed Jacksonville State, 5-2, at Rudy Abbott Field on Tuesday afternoon. The win moved the Tide to 4-0 on the young season.

Peyton Wilson got UA on the board first, leading off the game with a home run. The Gamecocks answered in the second with things staying even at one until the fifth when Sam Praytor sent a two-run home run over the wall in left, giving UA the lead once again. Jacksonville State came within one, scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth but would come no closer as Hamiter's two-RBI single in the seventh put things out of reach.

Alabama's arms were solid on Tuesday, first with William Freeman. The Tide starter tossed 4.0 innings, allowing a run on four hits while striking out five. He was followed by Landon Green (1-0) who worked 2.2 frames and struck out three for the win. Chase Lee came in to close it out, tossing the final 2.1 with four punchouts to pick up the save.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"I'm really glad to get the win. Obviously, it wasn't pretty, and there are plenty of things that we still need to get better at, but I'm really excited to grind out a win."

The Crimson Tide returns home to Sewell-Thomas Stadium tomorrow for a midweek pairing with UT-Martin. First pitch of the Wednesday matchup is set for 3 p.m. CT with the game airing on SEC Network+.

WATCH: Sam Praytor hits a monster home run as Alabama defeats JSU
(Compliments again of Right Field Ragers)

Alabama baseball is off to a hot start. They swept McNeese State in their season-openng series over the weekend, and defeated Jacksonville State last night to improve their record to 4-0 on the season.

The Crimson Tide got the win over the Gamecocks on the road with a final score of 5-2.

Redshirt sophomore Landon Green got the win after pitching only 2.2 innings. He got some help from his catcher, Sam Praytor.

In the top of the fifth inning, with a runner on second and the game tied, Praytor pulled a ball so deep to left field, it was still on it’s way up as it went over the fence.

The two-run shot, Praytor’s second on the season, put Alabama up 3-1.

Sam's homerun at JSU

No. 22 Alabama will face UT-Martin at home tonight, Feb. 24 at Sewell-Thomas stadium.

BAMA BEAT: Alabama Baseball updates 2.22.21 (Ep. 398)

Brett Hudson and Hunter Johnson sit down to provide updates on the Alabama baseball season, including the sweep of McNeese State to start the year.

Looks like the podcast was before JSU - but they just put it out there today. In case anyone needs to kill some time before first pitch.

Strikeouts with runners on 3rd and 0 outs are basically the equivalent of stabbing me in the johnson with a rusty knife

With that said - RBI single by Jarvis

2-0 Bama

Rowe not off to a great start to the ole career

- HBP on 1st pitch of career
- BB to next batter
- BB to the next batter

- And he gets his first strikeout - great job. And that's it for Rowe. McNairy in.

UTM with the bases loaded, 1 out in the Top 5th

We didn't hit very well last night either.

It looks like we are giving a lot of young guys playing time though.
