Good players back in the day. Shula 1985, led team to 10 wins, clutch comebacks as QB over UGA & AU. Avery, clutch PG, NBA Champion. For me its head scratcher their terrible coaches. I for one thought they were both good hires. Sorry I was wrong. Shula has never been head coach of another team since & I don't believe Avery will ever head coach another after Bama.

Really good players most of the time don't make good coaches.

Not much a surprise tbh

So you’re saying it’s time to go hire Billy Donovan and become the Death Star of college basketball?

Exactly why would BD leave his current situation for Coleman Coliseum?

I still think Shula was a good hire, when you put it into context. He was the best we could hope for at the time, under the circumstances, and he did a pretty good job of getting the program from point A to point B. While the 2008 team had that first great recruiting class with Julio, Ingram, etc., many of the core leaders on that team...JP Wilson, Glen Coffee, Rashad Johnson, MIke Johnson, Andre Smith, Antoine Caldwell, etc., were Shula recruits. Yeah, there were seniors on the 2007 team that needed to go, but the program was hardly a dumpster fire.

I agree. I liked Shula - upon reflection, I’m not sure anyone could have done a better job considering the circumstances. I mean, he had to go, but I’d sure like some public healing at some point - bring him back and show him some appreciation.

Both coaches have done right and had respectable teams. I'm not convinced we will find a better coach then Avery. He is pulling in talent.

This is the worst excuse to keep someone.

Amen! Clearly we needed a change, but Shula was coaching with certain handicaps, such as NCAA sanctions. It really bothers me how even many UA alum show him such disrespect. I think the 2005 season was part of the momentum that led to later success for the program.
