Problem with expanding the Joe is getting the board's approval who just shot down UAB's cry for a new football stadium. Going to be tough to get Whitt/The Board to approve a new baseball stadium for Bama when they won't let UAB have an on campus football stadium.
Pretty easy actually. Even a complete renovation of the Joe would cost a fraction of a $100 million football stadium.
And there's also that small point of, the University of Alabama's athletic department makes money. UAB's hemorrhages money. Alabama football should help fund the other sports at the University of Alabama, but it should never be required to fund the failing athletic programs of another university who happens to be in the same system.
Anyone who raises a stink about that is an imbecile.

That's why, as another Tuscaloosa News article stated, baseball will have to do what Pat Murphy did for softball. Start a grassroots campaign to raise funds and build a winning program and fanbase (softball raises funds at a 10:1 clip to baseball). Then the BOT take notice. Not much UAB can cry about when UA athletics are self-sustaining. And for that matter, baseball can be a revenue sport.

Sadly some will. The majority of UAB folks are Alabama fans, but there are the few in power that loath UA and Auburn.

Let them raise a stink about it and expose them as the idiots they are if they try to make that argument.
It's a total non-starter. I mean, my goodness, we're about to build a new natatorium in the very near future, are they going to whine about that too?

Bottom line our baseball facility is a joke. It is one of the more high profile venues on campus and it is out of line with our other facilities. Something must change.

There's also an issue of Title IX. If we spend multi-millions on a new baseball stadium, we have to spend that much for the women. What would that be? All women's facilities are very well updated

Softball, track, and, volleyball, and women's basketball have all undergone facility improvements in the past couple of years. I don't think it is a matter of satisfying Title IX.

And the women's rowing team is slated to have a boathouse built within the next 2 years

Title IX does not require equal expenditures.

And not to mention the fact that a majority of students don't live on campus, like myself. I don't go unless I'm already on campus b/c I know I won't be able to find a place to park (at least in a remotely close space)
I always park in the lot between Alumni Hall and the band field, never have a problem finding a space.
