If you take away Mac's fumble in the redzone and their subsequent score - it really highlights what an amazing job our defense did. I was shocked. Truly.

Edited to add: "At Alabama, it just means more"

Outside of the one lightning drive it was a really, really fantastic performance.

They found a way after Ole Miss to fix the biggest issue of the last 2 years. Wasn't perfect all season, but it kept getting better as the year progressed

quote:

“I think that’s really what played a really big part in our defense as a whole: make sure everybody communicates and we’re all on the same page, whether it’s the right call or the wrong call. As long as we’re on the same page, we can all go out there and execute. I think we do a really great job of that, whenever we’re communicating.”

Alabama lost starting safety Jordan Battle to a targeting penalty and disqualification in the second quarter but overcome the loss of its best safety.

“I think we came into this game making sure we over-communicating, even if we didn’t have to, and just try to make a statement,” Harris said. “I think we did that.”

Gone are days of keeping teams to under 10 points. If for no other reason, your own offense scores so quickly giving the other team the ball.

24 against that offense is actually ok.

Absolutely. Also, offense gave them the ball within the 20 yard line on one occasion.

Given how high powered OSU’s offense was/is, that was a really impressive defensive performance. And how about Barmore! Dude showed out.

I was also impressed by OSU’s defense. They are pretty salty.

I know we all love to hate on Golding but I think the guy has earned at least a little bit of credit.

Glad we’ll be able to send Golding off on a good note.

Now, let’s just be sure to send him off.

I was torn. Their run defense was very effective, but they did it largely by not playing nickel.

That turned out to not work very well at all against the passing game.

I'd love to know the theory behind that move. I assume they wanted to shut down Najee and rely on QB pressure to limit the passing attack but that hasn't worked for anyone against Bama this year. It was almost like they didn't believe the film or didn't fully appreciate the talent level of Bama's WRs and Oline.

Came here to post the exact same thing.

It's east to criticize (and rightly so), but honestly, who out there is knocking it out of the park defensively against elite, modern offenses?

As an example, Venables gave up 35 in the first half against Ohio State.

Right: You are correct that OSU’s run defense was pretty good, but I was also impressed with how well their DBs played on a number of short routes in the red zone.

I think it was obvious that OSU has one of the more athletic defenses that we’ve played this year. The sack-fumble was a result of speed and quickness. The stop on Najee in the second half when the tight end missed a block was a result of speed.

I agree. Golding definitely got better as season went along. Since Ole Miss, Defense has been playing better. No one even noticed that Moses played better last night.

I noticed. I think their offense kinda played into our defense strong points.

I really didnt see Moses have too many bad plays.

Honestly, Harris was the one that had the rougher night of the two.

And what about 5-star LB BEN DAVIS with a one-armed tackle while being blocked.

He's just not very good in coverage. He actually covered Ruckert relatively well on that one throw - it was just a great throw and catch.

He isn't bad in coverage for a middle linebacker, but you would expect him to be a little better than he actually is for someone who played DB in high school and wasn't a linebacker until he got to Tuscaloosa.

That's how they played all season. I guess it was a "dance with the one that brought you" deal. They keep everything in front of them and tackle well. They play with 4 LBs around 75% of the time. This was mentioned during the broadcast. Apparently they aren't that deep in the secondary.

That is an understatement. IMO they were the best tackling team Bama played all year.

I am not sure but I also think OSU only scored a TD,
off the mac turnover because of the targeting hit.
Because I believe it was a third down incomplete down.
Osu would have settled for a FG.
