Are their any outside linebackers that may work inside this fall?

I know we are down one guy due to injury but have two really good outside guys coming in this year as true freshmen. Should that happen, who are the best candidates? Just curious. Crossing my fingers that Anoma is able to catch on quick.

I’d expect to see a lot of experimenting with the LBs in fall camp. Going to have to create some depth somehow.

Someone mentioned on here the other day that Ben Davis, after having spent considerable time at OLB, was back with the Inside group in Spring and running with the 2s.

Ben Davis

Would be a great time to live up to that number one position ranking two years ago. We know the measurables are there. I won't hold my breath waiting on him to play any minutes but it sure would be nice. Last week I worried about nose tackle, this week I am worked up over depth at ILB. Next week it will be inexperience at DC and God knows what after that. I hate being the resident worry wort. I am like that with everything. Always in super serious mode and never know how to relax. I seriously work sixty to seventy hours per week worrying that I am not getting enough done so I really can't help it guys so bare with me.

Davis living up to his potential would solve part of it but still needing one more go step up at the other spot. Maybe Benton will improve in year two but if anybody has to move it may be Moseley if he is fast enough.

Friend, give your worries to Jesus and drop 5 on a 20 sack. Everything's gonna be fine.

I think, given Lewis' injury and our desire to put lots of OLBs on the field on obvious passing downs, I'd guess Mosely is entrenched as a 2nd unit contributor outside.

Do you think McMillon and the 3 star guy from last year are capable backups to our two 5 star beasts on the inside. Can they at least provide a breather or two in big games without hurting us too bad while they are in?

To answer your question, first I personally don't care about star ratings. They are nice and all when ribbing rivals or evaluating an entire roster, but when discussing/comparing individuals, it loses its value and skews a person's viewpoint in a non-helpful direction.

Regarding McMillon, I have heard good things about him dating back to last spring - not world-beating things - but good, solid things.

Regarding Benton, he was a unanimous 4-star guy who was, according to someone here recently, was running with the 2s next to Ben Davis in Spring.

If the 3-star guy you mentioned is Moody, I'd wager he's going to redshirt this year, similar to Benton last year.

My guess is that after the starters of Wilson and Moses, there are 3 principle guys fighting for spots on the 2nd team, and all may be able to contribute: Benton, a R-Fr who seems to be the next bigtime guy inside; Ben Davis, who is only a R-Soph, still has plenty of time left in his career to contribute at Bama and does look good on the hoof; and McMillon, the largest of these 3 guys, who got a ton of garbage time PT last year and who might be a bit of a thumper.

Simply put, I think our backup ILB corp is as good and as promising as any in the country. I don't think it's a logical place for a person like yourself to be focusing his worry. Sure, if our starters were to go down with injuries, the backups wouldn't provide the same level of play, but that's completely normal and true for every single team in CFB. And it's teams like Bama that have the smallest drop-off, giving the likes of us, Clemson, etc. a huge advantage throughout the season.

Side note: Ben Davis was on the first-team defense for the spring game. TIFWIW.
