No surprise from the Associated Press 2019 preseason college football poll which picked up right where the 2018 season with Clemson ranked No. 1 and Alabama in second place. The Tigers received 42 of the 62 first place votes with Alabama getting the remaining 10.

Alabama has been No. 1 five times at the end of seasons under Nick Saban and No. 1 preseason five times. The Tide had been preseason No. 1 for three consecutive seasons, 2016-17-18, prior to this season. Only Oklahoma, 1985-87, had previously been selected No. 1 in the preseason for three consecutive years. In 2017 Alabama was preseason No. 1 and finished the season No. 1.

At some point this season Alabama will have to attain the No. 1 position in order to extend the most amazing record of all those held by the Crimson Tide regarding the AP poll. At some point in each of the last 11 seasons, Bama has been ranked No. 1.

The AP 2019 preseason top ten was the same as that of the Coaches Poll released earlier this month. That top ten is 1. Clemson, 2. Alabama 3. Georgia, 4. Oklahoma, 5. Ohio State, 6. LSU, 7. Michigan, 8. Florida, 9. Notre Dame, and 10. Texas.

In addition to the four Southeastern Conference teams in the top ten, Texas A&M is No. 12 and Auburn No. 16. Missouri was just outside the top 25 at what would be 26th, and Mississippi State and South Carolina were also among “Others receiving votes.”

Some people have a lot more faith in Ed Orgeron than I do.

Let Clemson carry the target on their back for the season. Hopefully Bama can finish it off #1.

52-10 first place votes?
Is this more a function of Clemson talent v. Bama, especially in another game against each other, or more a function of schedule strength and assumed final regular season records?

I hope the former.

Gotta be the former, and to their credit Clemson deserve to be commended with the 52 votes.

The Tide were a great team last year and Clemson kicked our arse, that's a great accomplishment.

Nothing will be sweeter than taking back the National Championship.
