I really believe we already made adjustments to our recruiting approach. The last cycle, we seemed to get a bunch high character guys. We seemingly passed on the RB out of Texas, that loves drama

I think, but have no proof, that this is why certain assistants with great resumes didn't last long in Tuscaloosa recently.

Welp, Locksley was Anoma's primary recruiter, and Gattis and Kuligowski were Alfano's recruiters, so that's a good hypothesis.

Yeah, a five star isn't everything. Better to have a four star that can stay in the program than some five star that is supposedly all-world.

The first question each HC was asked at Media Days is what you have in place to help these players who are leaking oil emotionally. It sounded like everyone had a plan or at least knew the question was coming. Cause they all pretty much had a thoughtful answer. Alabama has its fair share of problem children, like everyone else. But the speed that these 2 high profile players crashed and burned was startling. A lot of football folks seriously missed the character evaluation on these guys.

So Anoma got kicked off at Houston and now Alfano is indefinitely suspended at Colorado. Sheesh. I don't know if this actually validates them leaving here or makes me wonder how we missed on these personalities in recruiting (or if they were so talented we just looked past it).

I'd suspect that with kids as talented as those 2 were, you may take a chance on them hoping that the change of environment and the increased level of talent around them will make them reevaluate and change their attitudes.
Unfortunately, they'll probably realize their mistake after it's too late.

Obviously sometimes it works out taking a chance on kids with character issues but I wish coach would pass on guys like that. Lots of times these guys end up getting booted from the team or just transfer out and sometimes the guys are team cancers even if they are elite on the field. Just too risky with limited scholarships to give out. Those two scholarships could have been given to two kids that could have helped the team but now we had two less front seven players in a year that injuries decimated the line and left us with only one elite pass rusher that battled injuries himself. It's just not worth the risk.

I wonder if WillyT is going to report this to the SEC Rant?

Nah, he only reports that they left Alabama, not what happened afterwards.

Unfortunately, life isn't always either black or white, and we really don't know the entire story on either of them, but we DO know that hindsight is always a perfect 20-20. Hopefully we learned something from BOTH cases.

Not much of a surprise, but Alfano is no longer at CU...

The former five-star recruit who transferred from Alabama last winter, is no longer enrolled at CU and therefore is not a part of the football team, the school confirmed Friday.

So much talent wasted...

Willy T: that guy has the ability to irritate me like no other on the Rant. I just try to ignore him now. Even his avatar is the most annoying on the site. Sheesh, I wish that guy would get a permaban.

Saban alluded to this in the past recruiting cycle. We had been signing guys who were kinda iffy on character for whatever reason. He feels the Class of '20 has character. Hopefully he's correct.

This guy needs a reality check. I hope he gets one before it’s too late.

I hope the staff has gotten those out of their systems.

I think that's why they didn't even remotely pursue Zach Evans at the start of his senior season.

Alfano and Anoma, almost identical situations. Both looking for a 3rd school to play before they take a meaningful snap in college. You almost have to wonder if it's attitude or something more serious, whether it be addiction issues or mental illness.

didn't anoma and alfano both come from that school where the old coach showed up to build a winner? he did it while recruiting high risk kids from downtrodden neighborhoods or something like that? i keep thinking i seen a report on that somewhere?
