Apparently he had two deaths in his family. Which is why he asked for a release to be closer to home.

My mother died in a car crash in Alabama while I was living in Boston. As a person who's experienced extreme tragedy while far from home, I can say that it may not be about "being closer to home", but rather about a change of scenery. Wherever you are when the tragedy strikes, that place holds a powerful negative emotion and energy that is hard to shake, and frequently a person just needs a change of scenery/location to get out of that funk. A can attest to it.

What's with all the drama folks?
This is HUGE. The REC deserves a standing ovation
We just got another 5-star to our 2018 class eligible this year, at a position of need. I wonder what our final ranking would've been with this addition

Word is that it moved us from #6 to # 5.

He never enrolled, sounds like Peterson was a good guy and let the kid out of the nli with no restrictions. Maybe he just wants a fresh start at bama, with the kind of structure and support that few programs provide
Which is why he asked for a release to be closer to home.

Same happened to me living in New Orleans. I was dying to leave. Luckily, good things eventually happened, and I fell in love again.
He's also in Seattle. While beautiful, the weather can be very depressing. It has a much greater influence on people's not than a lot of people realize.
Glad we got him.

Yup. And it makes sense since he's from Nevada. That's one hell of a change in number of sunny days.
That's why my wife (no pics) took a job here in South Carolina...she's originally from Seattle, but couldn't deal with the weather anymore.

If he's only been there during the summer, then he hasn't seen many rainy days.

I do have to question his judgement if he wants to trade living in Seattle for Tuscaloosa.
Yeah, why would someone want leave for a place with more than half as many rainy days a year, significantly less violent crime, an a cost of living below the national average AND get to play for the premier college football program in the nation?
Doesn't everyone love more than 150 rainy days a year, lots of crime, and spending lots more money just to live?
Posted on 8/8/18 at 2:52 pm to pvilleguru
Hell, I'd bet that it has rained more in Tuscaloosa this summer than it has in Seattle.

You're going to lose a lot of money.
Seattle averages 152 days of rain each year. Tuscaloosa averages 77.

I said this summer.

From NOAA, Seattle/Tacoma got a total of 0.8" of rain during May-July. During the same timeframe, Tuscaloosa got 8.49".

For being labeled as a rainy city, Seattle doesn't get that much annual rainfall

Eh, I turned down Seattle for Bham. The northwest is cool. Great music, food and hiking. I've spent a good bit of time there (family), but as soon I start talking (they hear my accent) they immediately treat me like I'm a fricking third world caveman who has no capacity to understand their progressivism. This is despite the fact that I'm A) probably more left than them and B) have a fricking degree in political science.
Their hypocrisy around "tolerance" drives me up the walls.
The Northwest is beautiful, but the people are unbearable in my experience.

And it is usually sunny from May-mid Sept. Rainy days start picking back up in October.

I really couldn't care less about the reason he chose to come here. I am just glad he did. I really wish he were in playing shape for this season because we really need an ILB but we are gonna need them even more next season. Great addition.

BREAKING: Former five-star LB headed to Alabama (BOL | embedded video)
Notes: Kaho is part of UA's 2018 signing class, counts against the last (25th) 2018 signee/initial counter spot and is immediately eligible. Kaho puts UA's 2018 roster at 83 scholarship players. UA moves up to #5 in the 2018 Class Rankings.

Brandon "Ale" Kaho is headed to Bama.
The former five-star linebacker from Reno, Nev., was released from his national letter of intent with Washington on Monday and a source close to the situation has informed 247Sports that Alabama will be the landing spot.
It is expected that Kaho, the No. 1-rated inside linebacker in the 2018 class according to the 247Sports rankings, will depart for Tuscaloosa as early as Wednesday night.
The 6-foot-1, 218-pound prospect was a longtime commit to Brigham Young during the recruiting process before flipping his commitment to the Huskies just prior to the early signing period last December.
He signed with Washington last year and arrived in Seattle this summer, but never enrolled while wrapping up required coursework. Huskies head coach Chris Petersen cited "personal reasons" for the release of the program's highest-rated incoming freshman.
The Crimson Tide were heavily involved in Kaho's recruitment last year and were considered to have finished in a runner-up position. While committed to BYU, Kaho tripped to Tuscaloosa to camp with Alabama and promptly landed a scholarship offer from head coach Nick Saban.
Kaho returned to town for an official visit to campus the weekend of Nov. 4 and saw the Crimson Tide earn a big victory against LSU. He gave the trip rave reviews. "On this official, the difference I saw was how dedicated the coaches are and how differently they do things, not only with football but with the academic aspect, too," Kaho told 247Sports following his visit to Alabama last year.
"They know what classes you're taking and what assignments are coming up. They are on it. The one thing I was looking for was the coaches being real with me and not sugar coating anything. They were 100 percent real with me. I loved everything they told me and everything they talked about with me and my family. It was better than I thought it would be.
"Coach (Nick) Saban told me he could see me (playing inside and outside), too, since I have the athleticism. That made me feel a lot better because it doesn't make me one-dimensional in their defense. I could go pass rush, I could work on my coverage or fill gaps in the middle if I have to -- it's wherever they would need me. It made me feel a lot better about Alabama from a football standpoint."
Alabama brought in only one other true inside linebacker, three-star prospect Jaylen Moody, in the 2018 class. Kaho was never enrolled at Washington, so he's eligible immediately, although it figures to take him some time to get acclimated to a college program.
Kaho was a U.S. Army All-American and Polynesian Bowl participant. He was the nation's No. 133 overall prospect in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
