Pitching needs to be more consistent if we're gonna make a run at the title.

The tears of our enemy

Alabama too much for LSU softball as they lose 13-5

The Tigers got on the board first in the first inning. Pleasants hit a high fly ball to left and made it to third. She then would score on an Amanda Doyle deep sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.

Alabama answered in the bottom half of the first with three runs but the Tigers answered to that with a Morgan Cummins smash over the left field fence to tie the game up 3-3.
The Crimson Tide bats continued in the bottom of the second as they scored two runs on three hits, taking a 5-3 lead on the Tigers.

After a scoreless third for both teams, Taylor Tidwell came up big for the Tigers as she belted out a two-run home run over the centerfield wall, plating Cummins, who was hit by a pitch.

Alabama scored four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to defeat LSU in five innings.

Wickersham took the loss for the Tigers, dropping to 1-1 on the year.

Look, buddy.

I want you to post here and rightfully express your frustrations if they are necessary.

You're obviously passionate about Alabama softball and we would definitely invite your input here.

Cool?

I haven't said a word to anyone or posted anything other than when I'm mentioned. I am minding my own business and enjoying the board. Looks like you for one are looking for a reason to get on my arse. I don't really understand why....
It is way to early in the year to assess where this team is headed. Cupcakes and a mediocre LSU team will not be the kind of wins that define this team.

Not at all my man. I promise I'm not hating on you.

I want you to post freely. I don't know the history of why people paint you in a negative light regarding the softball team.

I'm trying to keep that from happening moving forward.

I want you to enjoy the board while also posting. Differing opinions are welcome here. Don't stay silent for fear of reprisal.

As indicated above, it’s way too early to know how the 2021 season will go. Just happy to see Bama off to a much better start than last year. Gonna enjoy it while it lasts.

Fun fact from this past weekend - Bama Bash stat of the tournament:
quote:

This weekend @AlabamaSB hit 19-39 with two outs. That’s a .487 average in four games with two away. Incredible.

Happy to see the bats coming alive. Hope it continues as the quality of competition increases. Also heard in the post game press conference that all 13 runs that Bama scored against LSU yesterday came with 2 outs.

Alabama’s Kaylee Tow Named SEC Softball Player of the Week

The Madisonville, Ky., native was 11-for-14 at the plate during the Easton Bama Bash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A stellar weekend at the plate earned Kaylee Tow recognition from the Southeastern Conference, as the Madisonville, Ky., native is the SEC Softball Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.

Tow paced the Alabama offense in an undefeated weekend at the Easton Bama Bash, going 11-for-14 (.786) at the plate with a team-leading seven runs scored and nine RBIs. She had four multi-hit performances, including a season-best three hits on Friday against Liberty and in back-to-back games against eighth-ranked LSU. In the weekend finale against the Tigers, she scored three times and drove in a career-best five RBIs to help the Tide score 13 runs, its highest total in program history against LSU. For her efforts, she was named the Easton Bama Bash MVP.

The weekly conference award is the second of Tow's career, previously winning on Feb. 11, 2019. Alabama has now earned 48 Player of the Week honor in program history.

Alabama’s Kaylee Tow Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week

The senior is just the third position player to win the award in program history

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The accolades continue to pour in for senior Kaylee Tow, this week's Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

The national honor is the first of Tow's career and the eighth in program history. She is just the third position player at Alabama to receive the accolade, joining Kelley Montalvo (March 11, 2008) and Charlotte Morgan (April 8, 2008). The last Crimson Tide player to receive the award was Alexis Osorio on March 13, 2018.

For her efforts, she was named the Easton Bama Bash MVP.

Alabama Softball Has Been Tough With Two Outs

Several years ago Alabama Softball Coach Patrick Murphy was in Seattle and went to a Seattle Mariners baseball game. He noticed on one of the outfield foul poles the slogan, “Two Out. So What?”

The implication was that just because there were two outs in an inning, it didn’t mean the inning was over.

Following Murphy’s return, the right field outfield foul post was inscribed with “Two Out. So What?”

I thought the baseball counterpart to this article was a better organized overview of the SEC, but here’s the softball version. Bama portions posted below, but more info on the others schools in the link:

SEC Softball Roundup: February 23

Let’s go down the rungs here shall we?

We have three remaining unbeaten teams. Alabama, Florida and Kentucky are 8-0, 8-0 and 9-0 respectively. They occupy three of the top four spots in the conference in batting average and hits; the Top 3 in doubles; two of the Top 3 in triples; and Kentucky has a vicegrip at the top of the home run board with 23. They’re also all in the Top 5 in OBP, as well, so they’ve all been getting it done with the bat.

‘Bama’s Elissa Brown currently has a .632 average, leading all SEC players. Trailing her are Kayla Kowalik and Lauren Johnson of UK and Brown’s teammate, the great Kaylee Tow. Brown is 3rd in the SEC in OBP at .667, and also has 10 runs scored. Kowalik is on an absolute tear, meanwhile. She’s posted a .613 average with an OBP of .658 and a SLG of 1.290., has 40 total bases, three triples, 19 hits, 16 RBI and 18 runs scored. All four of those marks are tops in the SEC, by the by.
