Mack should have stayed another year, could have played his way into the 1st round.
It was benifical for just about every lineback we have had since McClain. Odd that he decided to leave.

Mack's handler knows more than Nick Saban. Aight.

Some final numbers from Pro Day:
LINK
quote:
Running back Josh Jacobs: Word is that scouts timed Jacobs in the 4.6 range on both of his 40 runs. While the 40 times weren’t great, NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said on TV that Jacobs’ position workout was outstanding. In addition, Jacobs had a 35-inch vertical jump and got 18 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
quote:
Inside linebacker Mack Wilson: Wilson was timed in the 4.65 range in the 40, had a 33-inch vertical jump and posted a 10'1? broad jump.
Outside linebacker Christian Miller: Miller didn’t run the 40 as he continues to work back from the hamstring injury he suffered against Oklahoma. He got 18 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
Cornerback Saivion Smith: Some scouts had Smith as slow as 4.7 in the 40, a subpar number for a cornerback.
Offensive lineman Ross Piershbacher: Pierschbacher, who ran a 5.2 40 at the NFL scouting combine, recorded a 23-inch vertical jump.
Tight end Hale Hentges: Hentges had a 33.5-inch vertical jump. He got 12 reps on the bench press. Outside linebacker
Jamey Mosley: At least one team had Mosley in the 4.81 range in the 40. Mosley had a 32-inch vertical jump and tallied 16 reps on the bench press.
Wide receiver Derek Kief: Kief had the best broad jump of the day (10'5?) and tied with Jacobs for the best vertical jump of the day (35 inches). At least some teams had him in the 4.5-4.6 range in the 40.
Offensive lineman Lester Cotton: Cotton got 24 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

So Mack ran a 4.58? That isn't awful is it? That time would be top 15 or maybe right outside the top 15 over the last 3 year of the NFL combine for LBs.
and I know that y'all will think that I am trying to defend him right here, because I usually defend players when I feel that it is right unless they commit violent crimes, or display behavior that is harmful to the team or the University, but I am not trying to defend him. I am just looking for insight. 4.58 doesn't seem all that bad for an ILB. I suppose that one of his "strengths" is supposed to be his athleticism, which would lead to higher expectations for a 40 time?

A 4.58 would have tied for 10th best at the combine this year for LBs. But other reports are saying in the 4.65 range. Also, I believe these are all hand-timed (unless Bama uses lasers at their Pro Day?).
I think one issue was that it wasn't just the 40 time. His vert would have tied for 16th at the Combine, and his broad jump would have tied for 11th at the Combine.
I think when you add it all up with his film from this year, he hasn't really separated himself from the other LBs in this draft.

Thanks for the reply. I agree, he should've stayed one more year.
The play that always sticks out in my mind is that swing pass to the Clemson RB, and Wilson had him one on one, easy TFL, but just completely whiffed. Was one of the worst, most unathletic plays I have ever seen from a Saban LB.

That play triggered memories of Trey DePriest. If Mack's family is in a dire financial situation I totally get it, but he really needed another year. But then again, maybe he doesn't get any better and just gets a year older. Nothing would surprise me with Mack. I don't dislike him, but I won't miss him either.

Didn't realize there was a second Pro Day...

did he play at 220 last season? I know he was a stout dude but that seems heavier than I remember.

If he didn't lose any talk over being a 1st rounder after his "4.6s", this can only help.
It's not a crazy strong class, but theres a lot of good backs.
