I don’t understand how Arkansas who scored lower than us last Friday now has an an average score higher than us. How does that math work out?

Coach Duckworth discussed this on her show yesterday (at least in terms of the “NQS” = National Qualifying Score).

In ‘normal’ years, they take the 6 highest scores (at least 3 of the scores have to be at meets away from home), drop the highest score and average the remaining 5 to determine a team’s NQS.

This year they are only going to average the 4 highest scores (at least 2 scores must be at meets away from home) and teams don’t have to drop the highest score.

As mentioned above, it was actually Michigan that jumped ahead of us and Arkansas - haven’t looked at their combination of scores to see how that happened but they must have dropped a really low score with a much higher score to make that kind of jump in their average score.

Big meet tomorrow and a chance for Bama to up one of their away scores.

From a blog:

No. 7 Alabama at No. 6 Arkansas

This has the potential to be a really exciting and really close meet, y’all. Both Alabama and Arkansas had absolutely incredible performances last week, led by standout all around performances from Luisa Blanco and Kennedy Hambrick, respectively. The Crimson Tide notched a new program record with their score of 197.350, and Hambrick’s all around score of 39.750 was a program record as well. Not to be outdone, however, the Crimson Tide recorded their highest team score since Feb. 3, 2017, and both Luisa Blanco and Lexi Graber had outstanding all around performances as well.

Alabama has the higher score ceiling here, but Arkansas has been more consistent throughout the season. Keep an eye on Alabama’s vault lineup; last week it nailed all five of its 10.0 starts, and that could be the key to establishing a significant lead in the first half of the meet. Arkansas, currently ranked third in the nation on floor, has the potential to get a lot of those tenths back if the team hits like it did last week. Basically—this could go either way so make sure you have your snacks situated so you can pay attention.

I obviously don't understand how gymnastics rankings work, because having what was a 2-4 team ranked ahead of what was a 5-1 team makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

you are ranked by your scores. if you play great teams who consistently score in the high 197's and low 198's and lose but you score a 197.625 then you will be ranked higher over a team who constantly wins but only scores around 197.250. There is a uniform scoring system nationwide. I think the polls take an average factor into your scores. That is the way I understand the polls from my couch. Roll Dang Tide good man

If Alabama can somehow beat Florida, the Gymnastics team will join the Football and Basketball teams as SEC Champions (sharing the title with Florida). I’d be cool with that.

I was watching that it was good. I don't like the scoring however. It's damn near impossible to know who is leading until the scores are tallied. Don't allow a crappy score to be dropped.
Nice quads

No. 6 Alabama Gymnastics Faces No. 1 Florida Friday at Home with a Share of the SEC Title on the Line

The Gators come in at 7-0, having already secured a share of the SEC regular-season title, while the Crimson Tide is 6-1, meaning an Alabama win would result in both team sharing the championship

The No. 6 Alabama gymnastics team hosts No. 1 Florida Friday night at 7:30 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum. In addition to being the final meet of the regular season for both teams, it will be Senior Night for the Crimson Tide, which will also be celebrating the 30th anniversary of its 1991 NCAA Championship.

An Alabama win would be cause for another championship celebration, as the Tide would earn a share of the Southeastern Conference regular-season title. Florida, 7-0 in an SEC-only schedule, as already secured a share of the title, while Alabama, at 6-1, could earn a share by downing the nation's No. 1 team. This is just the fifth year that the SEC has recognized a regular-season champion. Prior to 2017, the SEC champion was solely crowned at the SEC Championships meet, instead of both a regular-season and 'tournament' title as it is now.
