In honor of Tennessee week, one of my favorite stories ever.

“It was the funeral of Coach Ken Donahue… Many Coaches and fans were in attendance… Phil Fulmer and Clem Gryska were both there and talking when somebody walked up and admired Coach Fulmer’s 1998 National Championship ring… The individual was making a fuss about it… Coach Fulmer then turned to Coach Gryska and asked him if that was a championship ring he was wearing, Coach replied yes it is… He then asked him what year is it from… Coach Gryska gave the best answer ever… “I really don’t know, I just picked one up off the dresser when I left the house.”

From this week’s Byrne Notice:

1971 SEC Championship Team and E.J. Junior to be Recognized on Saturday
We are looking forward to welcoming back several members of the 1971 SEC Championship Football Team as well as E.J. Junior, who was selected for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame last year, as part of our on-field festivities. These weekends are always so special as we get to recognize individuals and teams from years ago the helped create the rich history and tradition we have here at Alabama.

Softball Honored as SEC Champions During Alabama-Tennessee Game
At Saturday's football game, we will also see Alabama softball honored as the 2021 SEC Champions. As head coach Patrick Murphy told Eli Gold last week during the "Hey, Coach!" radio show, "I think that's one of the coolest traditions at Alabama. When you win a championship, you get presented at a football game in front of 101,000 people and that roar … you never ever forget that."

What Coach Josh Heupel, Tennessee Players Said About Facing Alabama (SI)

Considering everything else going on with the Volunteers, there hasn't been a whole lot of talk about the Third Saturday in October rivalry yet.

Baker has supposedly been in the dog house for maturity issues.

I posted this excerpt from an AL.com article over in the Agiye Hall thread but I'll repost it here as it deals with Baker:

Saban was also asked Monday about sophomore wide receiver Javon Baker, who caught five passes over the first four games of the season but has not been in uniform the past three.

“It’s the same thing. Players do what they’re supposed to do. They travel, they play, they contribute to the team and that’s every player’s choice,” Saban said. “Every player has a choice to do the things that they need to do to contribute to the team and everybody’s got to buy in. So, players that do that, travel. Players that have issues with that, they’re not really doing what they should do.

“I mean, that’s our job as a coach to make sure that people were doing the right things and if they’re not doing the right things there’s consequences for that. There’s consequences for that life. There’s consequences in that when you’re in competitive sports.”

I had been wondering about Baker as he's looked really good when targeted; his two catches in the Southern Miss game showed his ability but hadn't seen him since...

Will Anderson Jr. Named Bednarik Player of the Week

Alabama football's Will Anderson Jr. was named the Bednarik Player of the Week for his performance last weekend at Mississippi State, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Tuesday. The recognition is Anderson Jr.'s second from the Bednarik, as the sophomore was also selected for the weekly honor following the Ole Miss game.

Bednarik Player of the Week

Will Anderson Jr.
Became the first Alabama defender since 1988 to record four sacks in a game and just the third player in school history to tally four-plus sacks in a single contest, joining Derrick Thomas and Leroy Cook
Recorded six total tackles and a pass breakup to go with his four sacks
The four tackles for loss in Starkville moved him to an NCAA-leading 15 (-72 yards) for the season
Helped the Tide defense hold the Bulldogs to 18.8 points below their season average and 72 yards below their passing offense average entering the game

His four sacks led a stifling @AlabamaFTBL defense and the Tide back into the win column vs. Mississippi State. Sophomore linebacker Will Anderson Jr. (@will_anderson28) is our @NagurskiTrophy National Defensive Player of the Week.

The average lifespan of a Bluetick Coonhound is 11-12 years. Is there a single Bluetick Coonhound on the planet that has seen Tennessee beat Bama? We know Smokey X wasn't alive the last time it happened.
