We all know that we are experiencing one of the, if not the best run in college football history with Coach Saban at the helm. I hope must of us are enjoying it for what it is. However we all know that Saban will not coach forever.

Much has been made about possible successors with the most popular current pick being Dabo in hopes that he answers Mama’s call. There is a strong possibility that we will not be able to get a top tier target for fears of being “the guy who follows the guy.” No matter who succeeds Saban, I think we can all assume that this level of success will not last.

We will not be happy no matter what level of success is achieved. Hell we are barely happy with what we currently have. I position that the best thing for the program post Saban will not be to attempt the impossible task of emulating his on field success but rather to find happiness in another way.

We should hire a coach who is the complete anti Saban. A proven coach who will still bring some success but will bring the fans joy in other means. A coach who’s personality will enthrall and entertain us as fans. We are bored with winning as it is so it will be time to experience something else.

It will be time to experience a different kind of greatness.

It will be time to experience:

That is actually one of my pros on the pro/con list of Dabo. Not necessarily for the reasons you noted, but because it takes away the "well Coach Saban would have done this" line of second guessing, because it's an established fact that Dabo is very different from Saban.

Also LOL Leach is hilarious.

Dabo wants to be the first one with a statue on the other side of the Walk of Champions. Alabama has been too big a part of his life for him to not want the job. Following the methodical Saban with the passion of Dabo is too perfect. The dynasty might not end with Saban guys.

Is this even true? Historically Auburn is more trigger happy with their coaches than we are. How many coaches have we ever fired?

I still maintain that football as we know it will be gone in side of 10-15 years. The product that follows, whatever it is, will be a shell of the game we have now and I doubt I'll follow it closely. I plan on enjoying every last second of the current run.

Bring in the best coach available when coach retires. Assuming football continues as is, we have to find a way to adjust expectations. Don't know how to pull that off. We didn't do it after Bryant and I doubt we do it after Saban. It's going to get ugly.

To be fair, we’ve had the 2 most successful coaches in history for a combined 36 of the last 60 years (and counting) . In between the two, could we really not say that we’ve been more than willing to let coaches go, some of whom could have been fired a bit prematurely?

The three Mikes are the only Bama coaches to have been fired since Ears Whitworth. Which one (DuBose, Price, or Shula) do you think could have been fired prematurely?

i dread the day cns retires. yet i will always be thankful to him and miss terry. they lifted us out of the gloom and doom of mediocrity.

as for the next hc at bama. i would be waykool with dabo. however, i'm not completely sold on him actually coming home. if the powers that be treat him like they did bobby bowden back when, not sure dabo goes for it, momma or not. if the powers that be return to their pre cns ways, then i fully expect a quick return to mediocrity.

This is one of the few things that I have some insider knowledge on...Dabo is going to be difficult to get to leave Clemson. He's already a god there and his family roots are getting DEEP there. And he certainly ain't walking away from Clemson while his kid's are on the team or even in school there.

I'm not sure why people would be against Dabo.

The pros:
* Phenomenal Recruiter
* Proven to be a consistent winner
* Long, sustained track record of success (not a flash in pan)
* Bama to his core (as is evidenced repeatedly by his public comments)
* Could continue the success with lower drop off than virtually any other known & attainable coach

The cons:
* Personality is different than Saban
* Some have convinced themselves he has negatively recruited Bama

You answered your own question. We like our coaches surly and intimidating. That said, assuming Dabo doesn't pull a Paterno or anything crazy like that in the next 5 or 6 years, anyone who gets mad if we do actually hire him when Saban retires has lost their damn mind.

Would rather have Mike Gundy if we are going to go that route.

He would be Dubose 2.0 here. If you want all the boosters, former players, and hangers on that Saban exiled from the program back and meddling then hire Dabo.

Shula went 26-23 in four years
Dubuse went 24-23 in four years

Maybe you can say Curry was run off prematurely, but he declined a contract extension

Why do you say that?

In terms of letting cheating happen I assume?

Because there is a 0.000000% chance he is DuBose in terms of on field product. One, because DuBose wouldn't be DuBose if he inherited the machine Saban will leave and two because Dabo is clearly, without question a better college football coach and CEO than DuBose was.

It would be a disaster from all sides. I don't think people realize all the people Saban told to frick off when he got here. We don't need those people back. Dabo would initiate that happening again. Saban had no connection to the University and DNGAF and got rid of a bunch of dead wood in and around the program. I remember when he had Bill Rice's brother fired his second day on the job and how upset people were

We don't need Dabo. Period.

What people really don't realize is how hard the push back was when Saban told them to FO. It almost destroyed the realtionship. Fortunately he won. He was/is the only one who could win it.

Hopefully most of that old guard will be long DOA by the time he retires. The question then will be will there be any left over from the Saban years? It's great to be the king, but power vacuums suck. Pun = {ON}/OFF

I'm just kind of confused as to why you think that Dabo would just be a pushover to these "old money" types?
