Meh, the Directors Cup is way more important. The SEC Trophy literally only uses SEC Regular Season results.

Thr Directors Cup is where you finish nationally in your sport rankings/tournament.

Alabama finished 9th in the SEC all sports trophy last year. But 13th in the director’s cup. Which was something like 3rd in the SEC.

Then we didn't have a good year.

I truly do not care about the SEC Trophy. I care about the Directors Cup.

The Postseason is all that matters, fair or not. Nobody remember where you finished at the SEC Meet/Tournament in Track, CC, Golf.....even basketball, baseball and softball. The NCAAT is what matters.

Speak for yourself. Finishing 9th in the SEC in basketball is not a good year.

If we had gone to the Sweet 16 for the 2nd time in 28 years I probably would have called it a good year. But to each his own.

We went 8-8 in the SEC in 2004 and went to the Elite 8. It's frustrating we were so inconsistent most of the season but I'd still call that a good year.

Obviously the goal should be to finish high in both.

We had a lucky tournament run, but I wouldn't call it a good year.

2002 was a much better year than 2004.

Lucky tournament runs are kind of what teams are remembered for, though. 2011 UConn went 9-9 in the BE and won the national title. Multiple others have been close.

I'd agree it isn't the best way to judge the overall health of your program, but personally I think there are sports where the Postseason just matters a whole lot more. If our softball team had lost in the regionals I think most would have looked at it as a failure.

But it's all in the eye of the beholder, obviously. I'd like to win both.

Gottfried had 2-3 teams that were much better regular season teams than 2004. They just choked their arse off in the tournament.

Just different experiences I guess.

I don't care how, when, what, or why Alabama finishes 10th in the SEC in ANY multi-sports ranking, that ain't gonna be OK with me!. You can sugar coat it anyway you want, but being 10th in a 14 school league is bull shite!.
