I like bars but they shouldn't have been re-opened so soon and should be the first businesses to close again. If there is any group that is going to ignore precautions it's a bunch of drunk guys and girls in a bar.

Mounting evidence that a new variant of the virus is responsible for faster spread. No conclusion on lesser virulence.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, the swine flu tells Coronavirus “hold my beer!”

I think by mid/late July we will know how the rest of this year and into next year will go. If hospitalizations and deaths begin to sharply rise following the recent spike in new cases then the fall will see a second round of lockdowns, suspended school, no football, no basketball, etc. If there is no sharp rise in hospitalizations or deaths then the virus is either weakening in general or at least no longer being spread among the more vulnerable population.

Governor Kay Ivey said Tuesday she has extended the “Safer at Home” health order through July 31, but she did not make any major changes to the order.

Ivey and state leaders encouraged everyone to wear a mask anytime you are in public.

This was Ivey’s first news conference since May 21.

Blaming it on Memorial Day.

I am not wearing a mask. Get over it or get through it the best way you know how.

I mean that's fine, but with everyone taking this position we will keep having sky-high infection rates (deadly or not) and we won't be allowed to attend anything in large groups anytime soon.

If that is a tradeoff people are fine with, more power to you I guess.

No, we are going to get to the point, and soon, that officials will see that this stubborn segment of society will not conform to suggestions and guidelines for the greater good and it will be mandated.

Yeah, my best guess is that we are about a month away from this. Maybe less. More cities seem to be instituting mask requirements every day. It's pretty crazy that they're saying the odds of transmission between two mask wearers are minimal, but we don't have a statewide mask requirement. Just keep it in place for 4-6 weeks, strictly enforce it, and this shite is all but snuffed out. It just makes no sense to me.

It is already mandated for Jefferson County. Not sure about enforcement but I understand the business will be fined if they let people in without masks.

I was out by the Galleria earlier and one store was refusing to allow a guy in because he didn't have a mask. Guy didn't act like a Karen and went to his car and got a mask and apologized.

I'm just going to say this again because it's important. I'm not anti-mask. Don't like them, but have to wear them for work so it isn't the hill I'm dying on. With that said, for the most part outside of very dense urban environments mask mandates aren't going to work.

Based on the CDC's guidelines, you're unlikely to get COVID unless you're in close contact - which is defined as within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes. That's not shopping at the store. That's at the neighborhood cookout, pool party, worship service, bar (if it's open), simply around the family, etc.

Most churches around here are still virtual. Many others already require masks. Most businesses with a lot of employees already require masks. So you're left with places where people simply aren't thinking there's a threat and/or aren't willingly going to wear a mask and enforcement by the authorities simply isn't realistic. Even before the recent anti-LE civil disorder, the police aren't going into Karen's back yard to make sure everyone's masked up.

Saw a mention of this earlier but didn't read any details.

Is this just for high school, or colleges as well?

Gonna piss people off but the best way to attack this IMO is just make it a nationwide rule that everyone in public must wear a mask and open everything up 100%.

And be severe with the penalties for not wearing it unless you have a medical note. Like $100 for 1st offense and $500 for every offense after that.

It’s not that hard to wear a mask. I put it on and when I’m not around anyone I pull it below my nose to breathe easier and as soon as I see someone getting closer to me just pull it back over my nose.

Do you wash your hands before you raise and lower your mask? If you don’t then it seems like you are creating a worse problem for yourself

I never touch my face always fabric on front of mask. I also carry Germ-X on my person and grab like 3 or 4 of the wipes they give you to wipe down your cart and have those in my hand while I shop

And I have 3 mask that I alternate and wash them after every wear

Mistake 3: You keep touching your mask – If your mask touches another part of your body that is potentially contaminated with the virus—hair, forehead, hands—and the mask is put over your mouth and nose, you are at risk for infection.

Always be sure to wash your hands before putting your mask on, and once it is in place and you are out in public, don’t keep touching or adjusting it. When you’re not wearing it, don’t leave it around your neck in case there was any type of contamination.

Mistake 4: You’re taking your mask off wrong – When putting your mask on and taking your mask off, be careful not to touch the front of the mask. Instead of touching the mask itself, the CDC recommends grasping the mask by the ear loops or ties. Always handle your mask with clean hands and make sure you are not touching your eyes, nose or mouth when removing the mask. Immediately wash your hands after handling your mask and store it in a separate containment area like a paper bag

There’s also a study that says you need to change your mask every 2 freaking hours
