This would be understandable if the current administration was pushing for the drug listed in the article.

They aren't.

They are pushing a drug that costs almost nothing yet the NIH is pushing a drug that has failed multiple times to be effective.

Interesting, right?

Are you really implying that HCL is the only drug Trump's administration and government agencies under his hand picked leaders has pushed and elaborately funded?

The administration is pushing/funding too many drugs and potential vaccines through so many companies to list on a single page here. Probably a lot of it good bets but certainly more than a medicine cabinet full of sweetheart deals to loyal supporters as well.

Not even sure you could say the current administration has really pushed HCL all that hard compared to many other things. I mean they actually put a majority of the eggs in the vaccine basket.

Seems it's been Trump personally, more than all his hand picked appointed experts heading various agencies, so focused on this single drug after it became such a political talking point to rally his minions.

New York’s true nursing home death toll cloaked in secrecy

quote:

NEW YORK (AP) — Riverdale Nursing Home in the Bronx appears, on paper, to have escaped the worst of the coronavirus pandemic, with an official state count of just four deaths in its 146-bed facility.

The truth, according to the home, is far worse: 21 dead, most transported to hospitals before they succumbed.

“It was a cascading effect,” administrator Emil Fuzayov recalled. “One after the other.”

New York’s coronavirus death toll in nursing homes, already among the highest in the nation, could actually be a significant undercount. Unlike every other state with major outbreaks, New York only counts residents who died on nursing home property and not those who were transported to hospitals and died there.

If Trump is so tight with the Russians, maybe he could talk Putin into handing over a sample of that vaccine they announced today.

Alabama at 0.96 and 33 of the states are below 1.0.

Lets Keep wearing mask. I hope MeeMaw doesn’t lift the mask restriction too early. Ideally IMO I would at least like to wear them until the end of the year just to be sure

The big drug companies wont like this if it does work on humans. (very inexpensive and easy to produce)

We're on a good trend. The numbers will go up the next couple of days as the tests administered after the weekend come back, but each week's highs have been lower than the previous week's highs for almost a month now.

Going to be interesting to see how it goes now that school has started back.

That's why I'm worried Merck or someone will buy the rights to it and it will never see the light of day.

You realize that this has to end up with some pharma company to actually see the light of day?

the researchers said they are already in talks to find a partner that can quickly test, manufacture, and distribute the new compound

Who, exactly do you think the partners are that are capable of mass producing this aerosolized powder in a hyper-sterile environment and putting it in medical grade, accurate dosing vehicles by the tens of thousands?

And so it begins here in NC

quote:

he N.C. High School Athletic Association will not play high school football this fall and all other sports will see changes to their schedules after a vote by the NCHSAA Board of Directors on Tuesday evening, NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker announced in a video statement on Wednesday afternoon.

High school football season will begin in early February and run through early April, while no sports will be permitted to hold official tryouts or practices until at least Nov. 4.

The first sports that will be played are cross country and volleyball, starting in November and running through early January. Swimming will follow, starting in late November and running through the end of January.

Basketball season has been pushed back to December. It will run from December through mid-February. Boys soccer and boys & girls lacrosse are scheduled to begin in January and end in mid-March.

Golf, boys tennis, girls soccer, and softball will be played in March and April. Then the sports year will end with baseball, girls tennis, track & field, and wrestling from mid-April through mid-June.

I realize that Simian. I read the article. But if they don't see a viable commercial product, they can easily buy it, shelve it, have it "fail" trials, or more probably, since it costs little to make, buy it and mark it up obscenely.

The most likely candidates if I were guessing, will be Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk. From the article, it sounds like the product is made from genetically engineered bacteria that produce the nano bodies. These two companies make the overwhelming majority of insulin in the world via the same technology. Vats of genetically modified bacteria churn out various types of insulin for these companies at a very small cost and they then turn around and sell it for hundreds of dollars a vial. It would be quite simple for them to do the same with this product.

Meanwhile, here in Florida, the FHSAA, under pressure from the governor, has said all systems go for all fall sports: football, soccer, basketball, cross country, swimming and diving, volleyball, weightlifting, cheerleading, the whole 9 yards. We have at least 2 of the largest, most affluent college conferences and several smaller ones saying we can't protect the athletes despite herculean efforts to do so, therefore we're postponing everything but high school is ok to play.

Y’all remember when a certain poster from Costa Rica rode in on his COVID high horse explaining why they would never have a spike in cases like we did in March?

Sure, like all the other cheap treatments currently being tested from ... big drug companies.

Here’s a great timeline chronicling all the ways Trump screwed up our national response to this virus. When the likely inevitability of the cancellation of college football happens, keep this in mind. It didn’t have to be this way.

Slate

It includes hyperlinks to support almost all of the claims it makes.

Some of the outrage over the Obama administration’s spinning of what happened in Benghazi where 4 Americans were killed was justified. Where is that outrage over 160,000, and growing daily, deaths over this? We are 8 months into it and he’s still blatantly lying about almost daily.

I’m willing to bet you used some very bad drugs in your youth? You can be honest about it. It’s the first step to recovery.

Care to address any of the points laid out in the column, or just more ad hominem attacks?

You’re comparing what happened to four brave Americans that got cut loose and was left to die to a virus that was unleashed on the world by a known enemy of the United States and every other free society.

But it really don’t surprise me at all that you would try and link the two. Sad really

It's hard to deny the failures of this administration to adequately address the problem, but what has been highlighted by the pandemic more than anything is the complete vacuum of leadership from the White House on down. Nobody is guiltless. And it's been that way for years, getting worse and worse with every passing election. When The Squad easily wins primaries, despite strong, well financed opposition within their own party, and Orange Man sits in the White House you know things are bad. The bigger and more radical the caricature you nominate, the better their chance of election. American politics has completely devolved into pandering to voters by any and every means possible and governing be damned.

Weren't the original "projections" something like 2 million dead in the US?

And have't the vast majority of the 160,000 come from extremely blue states??

Didn't the WHO give incredible praise to China for their response and research of the virus in Jan/Feb?

How many people have died from covid in the US because we were ill-prepared? Nowhere have we run out of hospital beds or ventilators. A test didn't exist for the virus for first several weeks. There was mixed/bad info from experts whether or not masks even worked against the virus for the first 2 months of the pandemic.

and furthermore, what does Benghazi have to do with a pandemic? How is that at all comparable?

I am not a republican, and I did not vote for Trump-I do not like the guy - but to act like Trump has killed 160,000 that died from a fricking pandemic is absolutely ridiculous.

I'll also add that such a pandemic is unprecedented in modern times. To act like it was common sense, or even reasonable, to most Americans to shut down the entire nation like that early on in this thing is downright dumb.
