In general all of those precautions are to protect YOU.

The main point of the mask is still to protect OTHERS.

I have to wear the mask most of the time and I notice that I actually touch my face a lot less when the mask is on than I do when I can take it off.

Regardless of WHO it protects, those are the proper ways to handle the mask you are wearing.

This is why we won’t have sports. Idiots like this.

I don’t know why you’re butting in. The conversation we were having wasn’t even about what you are discussing. The conversation was about touching the mask while you are wearing it

And the travel/flight bans. How is FSU or Miami supposed to play Syracuse if they can't fly?

The argument that it’s better to be infected earlier in the year is predicated on players and coaches being immune to reinfection after testing positive. Unfortunately, experts say you cannot definitively rule out getting the virus again once you’ve had it.

“You can’t assume that having had the disease before protects you,” said Dr. George Rutherford, professor of epidemiology and director of Public Health at University of California-San Francisco. “Just because you have it doesn’t mean you’re protected. Having said that, we don’t have lots of evidence or even really case reports of people being reinfected.”

Am I correctly reading they can't even have contact practice until after August 29 at the earliest?

You're entirely misunderstanding the quote.

We have studies from South Korea debunking reinfection, as the "reinfection" was dead cells from the lungs remaining in the throat well after the host was recovered. It wasn't active. We have a smidge of cases suggesting it went dormant, but nothing beyond the normal range or expectations for viruses. We also have evidence of antibodies, B cells, and T cells (including similar coronaviruses that provide cross-strain protection) in individuals. We have SARS-COV1 and MERS studies showing long term immunity as well.

We know it causes immunity. The issue is that we don't know how long, albeit B and T cells as well as the aforemention SARS/MERS studies suggest long-term. We can't definitively state that because we haven't met the scientific bar to state so, which requires various studies over a large amount of time. This is the same as the WHO stating "we can't state it spreads person to person" in the middle of February when we knew it was spreading.

UNC and NC State if reopen as usual for the fall are mandating that all staff, faculty, and students be required to wear mask on campus.

UNC is looking to add to the honor code and students not wearing a mask would be violating that code.

Both are also considering large outdoor tent spaces for dinning.

The major problems with this are dining halls and dormitories. Classes are one thing, but people can't wear masks while they are eating and you can't very well insist that they be worn "at home" so to speak.

In order to keep people 6 feet apart the tents would need to take up tens of thousands of square feet.
