Yeah but I don't think that'll be a problem once he gets to Bama. Seems like we did a good job developing Jimmie and Hall, especially offensively. They didn't have much of an offensive game at all when Avery arrived and now they do. Hopefully they'll be able to turn Galin into a pretty good player. Also, Avery found Sexton before he was ranked and immediately knew he wanted him. He did the same with Galin. Obviously Sexton and Galin aren't on the same level, but Avery wouldn't have offered him if he didn't have potential.

Damn, we need to help Reese become a rebounder. He better at least learn to get physical

He's kind of a pick and pop guy, so I'm afraid he's not physical too. He went 0-2 from 3 in that first half also. Bad night for him, but it's just an all star game.

Both teams shot terrible at the line. Galin picked up a third foul almost immediately to start the second half.

Mississippi leads 80-77 with about 6 minutes left. Herb had another dunk and continues to play well.

Herb has been really impressive tonight. Listened to most of the first half and have been keeping up with the second half on twitter.

Herb scored 6 straight to keep Alabama in it down the stretch. That rebounding margin is not good regarding Reese.

He's got a lot of work to do. Kind of concerning but maybe he was holding back a little bc he got 2 quick fouls.

Good game and sounded like it was physical for an all star game. Bama and Miss seem pretty evenly matched in basketball because Alabama now only has a one game lead in the series I believe.

He has plenty of size but he plays a little soft. That's what worries me. Surely, he can develop to be much more physical.

He's gonna have to be physical going against Giddens in practice

Good stat lines for Galin and Herb. Not so much for Alex Reese. It was weird that he didn't start but subbed in a minute in.

Said it in the other thread that Reese is in the mold of the guys we usually recruit attitude wise. He has the skills and athletic ability to be really good someday.

It's not a good sign that he didn't start then subbed in immediately and only played 13 minutes. That was almost always some type of discipline thing when I was playing high school sports.

I haven't watched him much at all but getting zero rebounds at his size is bad, but I don't want to overreact to an all star game.

I wish we could recruit some city kids from the northeast (D.C, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania). Those kids seem to always have a chip on their shoulder. I know it's tough to recruit up there though.

Maybe I'm being too pessimistic but I wish Avery would concentrate more on regional recruiting for now and wait until we make some noise before going after top 10 kids. I know we landed Sexton and Petty and I am both surprised and grateful but going forward, we probably lose more battles than we win against Kansas and Big Blue. In years past, we became a Sweet Sixteen perennial recruiting Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia. Now we should have recruiting ties in La and Texas with Avery. Work the hell out of that area and get the best players we can, but right now, we need quality AND quantity. We've got too many bit/role players and not enough options. Once we get a solid average to above average player at 3 out of 5 positions minimum and 1-2 go-to guys, then we can swing for the fences on certain national guys we feel we have a good chance with. My fear is Avery will bring in someone like Colin and Petty and surround them with players that can't do dick because we had to settle for projects or 2 stars and we never get over the hump. Be yearly one and dones after sweating the bubble because we don't have players at each position.
Look, if he can keep bringing in players like Sexton and Petty yearly, I'll STFU and eat my crow happily. I just don't think we are a big enough basketball brand to do that even in the best of times and right now, we're still struggling. Am I wrong in that assessment?

Edit: We also used to do as Saban does now and shore up weak positions by being very good but very selective at hitting the Jucos for players. I'd like to see us resume that. frick these grad transfers! They are definitely one and dones and you are never going to get a great player that way. You CAN find a diamond in the rough in Juco. I present Spree as evidence.
