Oats hasn’t lacked confidence since the day he got here, but from watching his press conference, it seems like he really thinks we will be good.

CNO has high hopes for this team. So much for me trying to temper self expectations

Another basketball team shuts down because of covid. Season hasn't even started and it's already a shitshow because of covid.

We knew it would be.
Just have to hope we can ride the roller coaster.

The NCAA will push through all the shite because they have no other choice. They cannot miss another Billion dollar payday. They won’t survive

With Bruner, Herb, Petty, and Ellis I got a feeling we are gonna be elite defensively.
If Herb has improved his shot enough to just make teams respect it that’s gonna open up so much more stuff on offense.

Ol' Herb is pretty good at driving the basket. Don't remember much about his perimeter shot, but I'll bet Coach Oats has got him shooting it better. Nate is a guru.

I saw it posted on another sight to look out for the lineup of Herb, Shackelford, Petty, Rojas, and Bruner. Not that it would be the starting lineup, but to look for it when the game is on the line.
I was actually kind of shocked with that lineup since there doesn't seem to be a true PG. Maybe either Herb or Shackelford will be playing more "PG" than we expected.

Seems like a very deliberate even split of offense and defense. Would make sense for a tight game with 4 minutes left.

If they really trust Rojas that much, he must be showing out in practice. I know he was a beast in JC, but still.

Every school should take lessons from Coach Saban on how to manage a sports team during the Covid crisis. So far he has been a genius about it. Touch wood!

I would take just substantial improvement on defense. I’m not sure we have to be elite, although that would be nice.
The important thing to look at with us is points per possession allowed, given the pace we play at.
The biggest question mark on defense and the biggest question mark on the team (to me, at least) is Quinnerly. We expect Petty, Herb, and Bruner to all be good defenders. We hope for some improvement from Shackelford and Reese, who were both bad last year. Rojas hopefully is a good defender. Primo? Who knows. I also don’t know what to expect from Ellis. I know there are some that think he’ll be a good defender, but it seems too early to say for me. At least he has some length and athleticism, so there’s potential there.
(If the coaches have said Ellis is a good defender, then scratch all of that).
But Kira, as awesome as he was on offense, was a bad defender. We paired that with that a bad defender at the 5 (and the 2) This year we should be better at the 5. Is Quinnerly a good defender, decent defender, slight upgrade on Kira? It’s all a guess to me at this point.

I don't know if they've said anything specifically about defense, but Oats hasn't held back on his praise for Ellis. They seem to love him.

I think Oats said something about selling Petty and Ellis on being the two best two-way players in the SEC. Obviously that doesn't mean they are, but they must think Ellis has potential on D if nothing else.
