It doesn't have to be on Kentucky or Duke's level
The teams that are most successful in the tournament, are usually take with several seniors/juniors, and with 1-2 extremely talented underclassmen. Having experience can win a shitload of games in college.

In this age of early Pro departures it makes a huge difference in Football too. Look what a difference it made with our Seniors and fourth-year players coming back this season. Also what Clemson did to us in 2018 by retaining their Senior upperclassmen and whipping us in the NC game.

quote:I said before he was drafted that I’d bet on him being the best NBA player Alabama ever produced, and I still believed that after the criticism he received his first season. The dude has a ridiculous work ethic and passion for the game that is unrivaled even at the NBA level. I may have been wrong about him being better than Young (though I wouldn’t put it past him), but he’s still projects as an eventual top 10 player in my eyes.
For all the "it was one night" folks. Sexton over his last 45 games is averaging: 24.1 PTS, 3.6 AST 49.9 FG%, 44.6 3P%

Calapari's contract is 86 million for 10 years. Average 8.5 year.
If they wanted Oats they would probably only offer him 5 million a year max right now.
Here's is the Top 10 list...
quote:
John Calipari, Kentucky: $8,158,000
Mike Krzyzewski, Duke: $7,256,924
Mick Cronin, UCLA: $5,500,000, including a $2 million signing bonus
Rick Barnes, Tennessee: $4,700,000
Chris Beard, Texas Tech: $4,430,000
Jay Wright, Villanova: $4,410,304
Tom Izzo, Michigan State: $4,191,070
Roy Williams, North Carolina: $4,102,409
Chris Mack, Louisville: $4,067,494
Bill Self, Kansas: $3,985,857
Bob Huggins (West Virginia, $3,965,000), Buzz Williams (Texas A&M, $3,843,182) and Bruce Pearl (Auburn, $3,840,366) just missed the cut.
$5 mil would put him at #4 in NCAA. I'd bet we'd go at least $5.5, depending on how the season finishes. Not sure how much revenue the basketball team produces. But I assume it's enough that we'd put up the necessary investment. Especially considering Auburn has been doing great in basketball. A deep enough tournament run, and there would be a new arena announced within a month.

I agree, but to be realistic, we're gonna need some good fortune also.
If he wants the NBA, and they come calling, then there's nothing you can do about that. But I'd like to think that it won't come down to money. It'll have to be his dream job. I just hope that since he has been at Bama, he's realized that he never wants to live somewhere with a snowy winter, ever again.

Here are all the games vs teams that finished in the Top 200 in KenPom in which we had offensive efficiency > 120.0.
BTW, thanks for all of these charts and graphics you've been posting, especially lately. There's been some great ones with different polls and analytics that have been awesome to see.

I will second that opinion. Wish he had played a year or two more here to ingrain himself into our fan psyche as an Alabama legend. Absolutely love his talent and passion for the game. An All-time great here for sure.

The shot clock was 45 seconds back then too.
Lol. I remember with some teams, it was like watching a soccer match between 2 defensive squads. They'd bore teams into playing bad defense.

I feel like Ala owning an overall record of 110-74 vs LSU should be discussed more. Nobody has beaten them more than us. It's not real close.
It helps that we have 2 home games against them every year.

Only criticism that I have, and it's a minor one, is say we produced him at Bama. He came through here. But I'm not so certain we provided much benefit to his game, besides a platform to play against higher level talent.
Joking aside, for a former NBA player who was undersized, and excelled because of his hustle/ other intangibles, you'd think he'd have been a better coach, especially offensively. I don't remember anyone making great strides in their development.
A lot of stars make bad coaches, because they were always more physically gifted. Scrappy guys like Avery, who made the league against the odds, are usually the badass coaches. Especially with him being a point guard.

Well believe it or not Avery probably deserves a little bit of credit. He got Collin to Tuscaloosa and drafted into the league after one year. That's something. He fricked up some other things but he didn't do an entirely terrible job with Collin.

Beating Va Tech in the dance was so much fun. Nice little run to end that season. Aub in the tourney was great too.
Petty off the bench that night vs Hokie was 6-8 from 3. Collin had 25.

He's a terrible coach and dirty as shite. He'd be a better fit at Tennessee.

I think it was posted earlier, but Boeheim doesn’t like Oats. Guess it was something Oats said. If Syracuse lets him have any input, I doubt they come a calling.
Posted on 1/21/21 at 8:45 pm to FWBFLlaw
Jim 's a petty azz too. Oats took a shot at his boyfriend, Coach K, so he made a snide remark against Nate.

Syracuse isn't that great of a job, though. They barely pay more than we do in bball, plus it's in a dying state.
