So the pitch I guess the last 20 or so days by Marquette was "We ALMOST have a complete class, all we need is a scoring 2 guard" & all Grant could say is "I got 2 big men, there's plenty of PT" but I'm assuming Marquette pointed out our lack of PG recruiting recently & told him Grant would make him a PG

I'm tired of coming close & not being able to FINISH with some of these kids

Had high hopes for this class. We all said wait until 2013, that'll be our great class. That doesn't look like it's going to happen unfortunately. Really disappointing turn of events.

REALLY need to pinpoint why Grant is losing on these kids down the stretch...I know he is 1 of the nicer coaches in terms of recruiting, but he needs to learn how to pressure these kids into comitting if they give great vibes, like on his visit he was all Bama, told staff nowhere else he'd rather be & all of a sudden the last 2 weeks gets a full court press by MARQUETTE and sways toward them

Found this

quote:

One difference to note between Johnson’s visit to Marquette and Alabama is technique used by fellow recruits. Johnson said on his trip to Milwaukee the 2013 class was more active and “the whole time they were trying to get me to come down there [and commit],” according to Zagoria.

At Alabama, Johnson said “it wasn’t a ton of pressure for me to come in. They just told me what it’s like being on campus. Basically they just showed me a good time.”

I will not say I know all the details regarding Coach Grant and how he recruits, but from what I do know this is 100% correct. It may also be time for him to push the limit in terms of following the rules. This nice guy act is killing us with some recruits.

Now people are pointing to the 2014 class as a scape goat. Even the BamaHoopsBlog guy said it wasn't really important to sign guards this class. I'd say PG was just as big as signing a post if not more. I'm normally an optimistic guy, but this is grim for the 2013 class, real grim.

So do we just hold the two scholarships for ANOTHER year? This is getting really frustrating. We keep finishing 2nd for all these top players.

Quote from Zagsblog:

“He liked the intensity and the strength of their program,” Shaun Williams, JaJuan’s mother, told SNY.tv Friday. “With back-to-back Sweet 16s, [he feels they have] the ability and the urge to make the Final Four instead of just making it to the [NCAA] tournament.”

I officially hate JaJuan Johnson. OUCH.

Best-case scenario in my mind, is get the Jorgenson kid and call it quits, no need to reach.

I posted this question in BamaMag, but if we didnt pull Barber and landed him, do y'all think we could have both him and JJ/Troy by now.

Yes. I think if you want to find a scapegoat for this class it's Barber deciding to (allegedly) thug it up on his Louisville visit. That pretty much sent the dominos falling. We probably quit recruiting Barber too late to get Powell. Barber not coming killed our shot at Troy. Johnson is apparently a frontrunner, so getting a top 10 PG probably would have helped there too.

Yup. Luckily the in-state talent is much better next year, so it almost has to get better. The thing that hurts the worst is knowing what this class had a great chance of being. Barber, JJ/Troy, Hale, and Taylor would have been another top 5 class, and more impressive than the 2011 one considering where we pulled them from (except Taylor).

A little more evidence to Barber thuggery fricking us over:

"To win, I had to come in with a good class, and I really like this class,"

From ESPN

According to his mom, JJ hasn't decided on whether he will sign or not.

Anybody heard anything else on who Bama might turn to in the 2013 class, so far I just have Travis Jorgenson, Corn Elder, and Demetrius Henry as the only remaining possibilities. Any others?
