Honestly this is kinda chickenshit. He's had a letter of intent signed for 6-months. If that happened to me or my child, Id be absolutely livid. The kid had a fair amount of big time offers and chose Bama. Who knows which of those offers are still open.

You also never know what kind of communication he's had with the staff. If I remember, something similar happened with Darius Philon (sp?), Who ended up at Arkansas. Saban got hammered at the time. But eventually it came out that he knew there was a good chance he'd have to take a gray shirt, but he didn't want to accept the possibility.

I have no clue what happened here. But I've seen damn near every scenario on football recruiting and getting the numbers to work (part of the reason I don't follow football recruiting throughout the year anymore). I do know I feel terrible for Wilson. Because it's obvious that he really wanted to play for Bama. I hope he can still go to Kansas or Oregon, or another offer that was there earlier. Hell, that extra year of juco could be what he needs to develop.

To me, it's odd that NFL rosters have 53 and colleges football had 85 scholarships, but the NBA rosters have 15 (20 on the playoffs), but colleges basketball only had 13 scholarships. I understand why, but I'm sure you get where I'm coming from.

The only logic behind it is him wanting to be here so badly he will sign again next year.

That's not going to happen.

I don't totally disagree, but I'm hypocritical because I'd be 100% ok with them pushing Rojas out, and he signed his loi a couple years ago.

With Rojas, it's definitely a case of "you're definitely not going to play any meaningful minutes. Do you really want to stay on chill on the bench?"

Not saying anything is right. End of the day, these kids are unpaid amateurs. I definitely do want them pushed out of school. They get 5 to play 4, so I'd love to see them get a masters degree, if they want to get one. They deserve to finish whatever degree they've started.

A lot of people disagree with me on this point, but IMO scholarships should be capped at whatever a given school wants to spend on funding them. Artificially restricting where athletes can pursue an education would be Exhibit 1 in my case that the NCAA doesn't legitimately value the notion of a student-athlete.

Yeah I'd be stunned if he opts for another season of shitty JuCo ball when he can go to a D1 program for 3 years.

It seems to me some pretty good D1 programs will want Wilson.

ETA: Some are already reaching out to him.

He's 6'8" with a 46" vertical. I'm not sure why we didn't want him a little more. I don't think we should have passed on the other guys, but I also don't think Wilson was the least valuable guy we had.

Apparently there is a chance he could rejoin the class, 247 people saying that the staff is working on it but if it’s not from the Twatts or charlie it obviously has to be taken with quite a grain of salt.

So, was it down to Rojas OR Wilson? If it was truly one or the other, why would they keep Rojas over Wilson?

I'm just trying to figure out how basketball can give more scholarships than baseball.

I hate this. Some P5 school in need of a big just got incredibly lucky.

Since reopening his recruitment, prior Alabama pledge Langston Wilson tells @Stockrisers he’s heard from Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Clemson, DePaul, SMU, Western Kentucky, Texas A&M, Maryland, Iona, CSB, New Mexico State, Murray State, amongst (many) others.

Future pro. Book it.

I’m with you on this. I’m a fan of the “you shop, we shop” approach. But once you commit and sign, I’m not a fan of shopping for that spot. Not knowing the behind the scenes conversations that took place, I’ll reserve judgment. If it turns out to be a “we wanted you until something better came along” situation, I would find that to be very disappointing. Especially five months after the NLI was signed. How could any recruit trust that moving forward?

Yeah this is one that feels kinda scummy, but it's the inevitable end result of creating a system where roster situations get turned on their heads in fricking April every year when hundreds of players effectively declare themselves free agents after programs have already done the bulk of their high school and JuCo recruiting. Combine that with the what have you done for me lately attitude towards coaches that puts them under a massive amount of pressure to win big every year and it's going to generate some ugly situations.
