I've been told this team will be a lot better by players and people inside the program.

Goof is gone

2015 American Baseball Coaches Association and Baseball America National Assistant Coach of the Year Brad Bohannon is in

quote:

Bohannon brings 14 years of Southeastern Conference coaching experience to Alabama after having served as an assistant at Kentucky from 2004-15 and, most recently, Auburn from 2016-17. Regarded as one of the best recruiters in the nation, he was responsible for signing 13 Wildcat student-athletes that went on to play professional baseball, including 2014 Golden Spikes Award winner A.J. Reed, while his first recruiting class at Auburn was ranked No. 9 by Collegiate Baseball and includes six current starting position players.

quote:

Bohannon played a pivotal role in turning around both Kentucky and Auburn within three years on the job. The Wildcats became the first team in SEC history to go from worst to first in only one season, winning 44 games and the program's first league title in 2006, while the Tigers won 12 more games in 2017 than in 2016 and advanced to the NCAA tournament. In addition to improving in the win column, the 2017 squad is on pace to set the school record for fielding percentage.

Hopefully we see better fundamentals than we've had in years past. Certainly not going to expect much this year, but as bad as last year was, we were still 8-14-1 in games decided by less than 2 runs. Maybe Bohannon can instill energy into the program and get things rolling.

I think just getting in the conference tournament this year would be a good step. The schedule is as about easy as you can get in the SEC West.

Yeah- getting to Hoover is right around what I hope this year, but certainly won't be upset if we don't. Our pitching is going to be interesting to say the least.

I am excited to see Chandler Taylor AB this year.

Things I want to see

(a) Consistent efforts - well, I guess you could argue we were consistent last year too (gulp), but you know what I mean. I want to see a team that does what they do. I think we all know they aren't built with talent to win this league, but make other teams grind to beat them. Be prepared, be confident, make routine plays.

(b) An offensive approach. Lawd my soul for a team full of guys who have professional at-bats

(c) Peskiness. Get the frick after people. Be a fun team to watch that irritates the shite out of other teams.

Expectation : 29-27 (13-17)

I know we lost Bubba Thompson and Jacob Heatherly. Outside of those two, I just imagine Goff fricked us over more in recruiting.

This is supposed to be a really good pitcher from Hoover

Interested to see where Sam Praytor might fit in. He is a guy that can launch a baseball. Aside from that I'm excited about Chandler Taylor and hopefully seeing a better product on the field.

Goff was such a shitastic hire we’ll be cleaning up that mess for at least 3-4 years. Hoover is a realistic goal this year.

THIS!!!!
I can't tell you the number of times I've cursed watching so many weak arse defensive ABs. Go up there with a freaking plan!!!
I coached HS for years and we used an approach called "hitting by the numbers". It taught the hitter what pitch to expect in what count. For example, never swing at a first pitch breaking ball. 0-0 count and 2-0 count look and expect "dead red" fastball. The pitcher is looking to get ahead or climb back into the count. Using this method, our team numbers average, etc. jumped by 100 points, extra base hits rose as well.
I'm looking forward to watching this team and see what Bohannon brings to the table.

I'm guessing the impossible roster management job left by Goff is why we only have a few freshman in the roster. Hopefully Hoover this year and NCAA within 3.

We play South Alabama every year, why not this year?

USA is likely the top team in the state this year.

Looks like the sec network will allow us Bama fans in other states to actually watch the team this year. Can anyone familiar with the team give us starters and who the likely weekend rotation will be?
