The Advantage is designed to educate and provide Crimson Tide student-athletes with the tools necessary to build and elevate their personal brands

Alabama Athletics, one of the most recognizable and influential brands in all of sports, has created The Advantage, a comprehensive program that will provide Crimson Tide student-athletes with the education and tools necessary to build and elevate their personal brands.

In working with both campus partners and external entities, The Advantage, will focus on brand management, maximizing personal social media platforms and financial literacy.

"We are excited to launch this new program, which even further demonstrates our commitment to fully developing our student-athletes," Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne said. "We are blessed to have incredible resources on campus with our institution, allowing us to better fit our specific needs and evolve The Advantage, as needed."

Alabama has ranked in the top two in royalties generated among the Collegiate Licensing Company's partner institutions each of the last 11 years and was No. 1 in five of the last six seasons. Over the last five years, officially licensed Alabama product was sold in over 9,000 unique retailers, and during the last decade, over 60.3 million units of officially licensed Alabama merchandise has been sold by licensees. Most recently, the Crimson Tide set the 48-hour post-national championship win record for NCAA merchandise sales across all sports.

Prior to the 2020-21 academic year, Alabama partnered with Socialie, one of the top content distribution platforms, which has been instrumental in providing student-athletes, coaches and staff direct access to photos and videos. For the month of April, Tide student-athletes added nearly 140,000 followers on social accounts connected through Socialie for an overall total of 2,235,124 followers on connected personal accounts combined. In 2020, Alabama athletics social channels generated north of 1.1 billion impressions, while the previous month totaled more than 50 million interactions on the sport Instagram and Facebook accounts alone.

Just bring in the Insta-Thots to lead discussions.

They know their game and it also helps with recruiting.

Between that and being NFLU, we can retire the Dodge Charger program.

I mean, if people thought this was going to level the playing field any, they just haven't seen the Alabama Athletics machine at work...

I hope that wasn't the intention, because it's going to have the exact opposite effect. The high profile programs in the parts of the country where college athletics are a big deal will see the most benefits, and then you'll have media outlets begin questioning whether this was a mistake when Pac-12 athletes see minimal financial windfalls from it because - spoiler alert - people on the West Coast continue to not give a frick about college sports.

Yep. The same people in the media that are crying about how everything is unfair and athletes should benefit from their likeness will be bitching that the elite schools will have an even bigger recruiting advantage now.

Like most of these things, Saban told them what would happen. They didn't listen.

And now we will take it and use it as another advantage to beat their brains in with.

This program is an excellent idea.

That logo, however, is terrible. Especially for a program that means to teach kids to elevate and make the most of their brand.

I mean damn do we have to be the leader/innovator in everything?

Yes, yes we do.

Saban is a relentless savage. Damn.

This is the end of an era. And I don't feel great about it.

I know these haven't been exactly "amateur athletes" in the way, say, our Softball, Baseball, Volleyball etc sports are.

But this is just going to amp it up. Gonna be interesting seeing Slade Bolton in an advertisement for Tuscaloosa Chevrolet.

Saban got caught on defending the hurry up offense and early signing day, and quickly and decisively made changes to fix both. I'd even go so far as to say that we really have had 2 separate dynasties because of how much our playing style has changed. 2008-2012 and 2015-present.

Otherwise we have been ahead of the curve on pretty much everything. Continuing to embrace change despite being so successful is why Saban became tGOAT. Most people who experience success become very set in the ways that brought them that success.
