first post for me in this thread. First time I have been excited about a Bama BB team in a while. Up tempo and not running the block down to under 5 sec. to shoot. UTA is a good team and will make noise in their conference.

Also Mo was hard to listen too. He sounded like he was commenting on a street ball game. But it was great to see him back on campus

yea Mo wasn't great but I'll give him a pass because he loves us I loved him sneaking in the roll tide before they left the air.

Great win. And huge props to UT-Arlington. They are a damn nice hoops team.

I'm just so happy the scoring drought days are over. It will be interesting to see how he mixes and matches lineups going forward when Key gets back. I hope Key doesn't try to rush things and get himself out of wack. He needs to just let the game come to him. This is Collin's team and it all has to go through him.

Hell, I thought Mo was great. It was our very own Bama broadcast. Pretty cool that his son is involved with the program too as a manager.

Hopefully our guys refocus for the BYU game and don't overlook them for Minnesota. BYU can put up points, it's their defense that's highly questionable.

Mo Williams was good to me. He was pretty homerish at times, but I didn't mind . I like how Avery went out and got him and other past Bama NBA greats to start coming back around the program. It is what we needed.

Also, does anyone else think that Herb may get any taller? He just seems like a kid that is still growing and may get up to 6'10"

No way Hall makes the league unless he learns that he can't and shouldn't try to block everything. Key might because of his skill set but has to change his attitude on the court. I think Giddens will be good if he stays out of foul trouble.

maybe not the league but Hall will get paid to play basketball when he leaves. There's good money overseas.

speaking of, check out charles hankerson's instagram. Pretty funny. He's doing well over there.

Well he's been able to block it on most occasions and not foul. Considering he's averaging just 2.3 FPG with 4 of those fouls coming in that ridiculous first game against the Memphis Officials, that's very impressive. If you're referring to the goaltending last night, I would have loved to see that replay. To me it looked like he caught that thing before it started falling, but since it's rare that a player can block a shot at it's peak the officials will call that a goaltend 95% of the time. With the way he's played this year, I think Hall will make the league either this year or next year. His athleticism and length have always been incredible, but he's displayed a very solid offensive game as well so far this year. He's shooting 82% from the field, with a good portion of his points coming from his own making.

He's also displayed a higher IQ with the ball in his hands, making good passes and knowing when he should keep it. There was one move he made last night where he was looking to pass the ball back out, the defense left him a hole to the hoop and he took a couple dribbles and made a nice layup. I haven't seen that in Hall in either of his 2 previous years.

It was definitely falling. I'd even argue that it was going to fall 5' short of the rim.

I know that's what Mo said, but in live action it didn't look that way to me. Of course he has a better judgement of that sitting court level. If it was going to fall that short it shouldn't be a goaltend IMO though. With where he blocked the shot, an on-target attempt shouldn't have been falling.

Somebody convince me that John Petty isn't a white dude in black face.

It wasn't on-target.

Yep. Like Mo was saying last night, he brought energy to the floor when he came in the game. And it's cliche to say about white players, but he does so many of the little things so well. He's almost always the guy diving for loose balls. He's rarely caught out of position on D. He's an above average rebounder for a guy his size. Herb brings almost that same skill set though, so he's going to lose some minutes over last year, but still an important cog in the wheel.

Play of the game was Sexton's D on their last possession. He absolutely shut their PG down and didn't allow him to get the offense started. They wanted to get that pick and roll going with Hervey, and he absolutely denied it. Impressive for a true frosh against a very talented senior.

That's exactly my point... If the shot isn't even close to on-target, why should the team be awarded a goaltend. I've seen so many games end where a wildly off shot turns out to be a game-winning pass.

By the book it might be the right call, but I believe it needs adjusting. Great shot blockers know where the rim is and at what point they can block an on-target shot attempt. It's hard for a shot-blocker to tell if the ball is actually falling. They block or don't block shots depending on the point of where the ball should be in its trajectory. Typically, if you're closer to the shooter than the rim it should be safe to block. Like I said, I'd have to see it again, but it looked like he was closer to the shooter than the rim.

Do you really want the refs deciding if a shot was close enough or not? Lots of shots hit the front rim and bounce in.

Never said that. I think that on jump shots the call should be adjusted to the official deciding if the block occurred closer to the defender or closer to the basket. I mean that's technically what the rule was initially meant to stop in the first place hence "goaltending". It would still be a bit of a judgement call, but a much easier one to make than the current "is it on it's way down" method.
