Wouldn't work because not all conferences are built the same. Also...there's always the possibility that some 6-6 or 7-5 team makes the Big 12 or Pac 12 Championship Game and wins it. That would be disastrous for the sport as legitimately good teams would be left out of the playoff.

Which has only been mentioned about 8,000 times, yet for some inexplicable reason, people keep starting threads about this bullshite

I want 8 teams, no conference titles. They don’t matter, and all conferences aren’t equal. Just give me the 8 best teams.

I am against expansion more so because it will never be about getting the best teams in. It will be about TV money and P5 conferences guaranteed a spot and the same for at least one G5.

Come with a better ranking system then those people we have now in a room with bias. Maybe go back to using the BCS ranking model to determine the top 8 or whatever teams.

This. The ranking system is flawed. Adding more teams does nothing for the entertainment.

The BCS was just a combination of two polls (voters have biases) and a computer program ranking (also flawed). The current committee's rankings are so scrutinized, it essentially forces them to do their best to get it right. It appears to me that the committee does a good job.

Which Is why I also think this should happen...

Also have some requirements a P5 champ has to meet to get an auto bid. That way it prevents a 7-5 team from pulling an upset and making the playoff. If they don’t meet requirements then that spot becomes an extra At-Large Bid

That's too convoluted. And automatic bids would cause more harm than good, anyway. So keep it simple: top-ranked teams based on resumes get in -- all at-large, no automatic bids.

I want eight teams. Five Conference Champs and three at large.

Top four seeds play round one on their campus.

The whole country is engaged. Top players stop sitting out.

Another huge home game!

This would only satisfy the prejudiced that think that fringe teams have a chance.
My question is, what team that wasn't in the final four really had a prayer at winning?

The College Football Playoff management committee is meeting right now, considering a dozen different playoff schemes that would include between 6 and 16 teams.

I thought everyone was aware of this, which is why I brought this old issue back up.

It's happening now. And it could change very quickly. So just saying keep it all the same ain't happening. It's just a matter of how and how much the playoff changes.

They didn’t say they were going to change it. Just that they were discussing it. So it could very well stay the same

If your read the reports, there is a very high probability that expansion will happen, with almost universal support.

I just googled "CFP committee meeting" -- From the articles I read, it appears no decisions about changing the CFP are expected anytime soon.

Bring back the BCS. Sell it as the entire season is a playoff.

No one would know!

I'm conservative and a traditionalist. I don't hate the 4 team playoff. I didn't hate the BCS.

The irony to all of this is this will only ensure teams like Alabama will get in every, single, time.

Tell where in there they’re definitely going to change? All I see is there’s talks which I’m sure there has been before.

It shouldn’t be expanded. We’ve seen every year there’s between 1-3 teams that are a step above the rest. All the conferences aren’t equal either. The PAC12 is barely a power 5 some years. People like to bring up other sports with playoffs (including the FCS) but the parity is far greater in CFB. Adding more teams into the playoffs doesn’t change that. If anything, it guarantees more of the big teams getting in because more spots are available.

Bama is having a down year and goes 10-2. Guess what still probably in the playoffs. Yet all these Bama haters still want it for the pity G5 team to maybe get in every 4 years.

You all are being purposely obtuse.

It's not about changing the outcome. It's about getting a national presence into the play offs.

It works just like the ncaa basketball tournament. It spreads the excitement and increases the number of fans who have an emotional stake in it.

The NFC east isn't equal to the AFC east. But the NFC east champ goes to the playoffs.

As far as the inevitably of change, read all the articles. For the most part, there seems to be a building momentum for imminent change. Maybe it's just media spin.
