Ok so we all kind of know each other here and you guys know I am probably pessimistic to a fault. With that said, we don't have the true elite guy in the middle we are used to having. I know for a fact that we can make our scheme work "this year" and find one or two guys to play there. The problem is the next year in 2019 and 2020.

Missing out on all of our inside targets the last two cycles hurt a lot more than a lot of us care to admit. While I know I am negative, I feel like this issue is real and it is really going to hurt. If we don't land a stud grad transfer and or a top notch Juco we will be in even more trouble. This year also is imperative that we sign a handful of prospects for the middle and gut of our defense.

I don't think there is anything that any of our resident sunshine pumpers can tell me to make me feel better about it.

If no one can say anything to make you feel better then why post this?

Just looking for conversation dude, that's all. It is a pretty glaring and serious issue and I would like to discuss it. I ain't down on the staff or anything. We have lost almost all of our staff the last three years including a few elite recruiters and that's why our recruiting is just very good right now instead of outstanding. Losing that much staff so quickly would cripple any program and even the beast coach Saban is feeling its effects.

Its a problem we all know but hopefully we get those Grad transfers. At least one would make a big difference.

I think that we have to find someone through these avenues. Worst case scenario is maybe moving a big athletic reserve olineman to the other side

I would hate to do it but I. Buggs would likely be our best option at nose when we are in base. He is big enough and strong enough plus we are deeper at DE so we could afford to move him. The problem though is that in 2018 there really isn't anybody on the roster that fits at nose. I won't lie, I am pretty Damon concerned about it.

Phidarian Mathis would have been one of the top DTs in this years class.

Hell, he was one of the top players in last years LOADED class.

Mathis is legit. He has all the tools, and a year in the system. He finna eat. Would have been a five star in this years weak arse recruiting class.

This. From all I've heard, I expect Mathis to be our lead DT / nose tackle. Edited to add: I wasn't thinking about Raekwon Davis, for some reason. I think we see Mathis and Dwight at DT, with Davis sliding to NT on passing downs.

Depth behind him is an issue. If I had to guess, I'd say we'll rotate a lot of bodies through regularly during a game -- probably even more than we have in recent years -- to keep all the DTs as fresh as possible.

If the injury gods smile on us this year (and Lord knows they ought to), we should be fine. If we get one or two serious injuries on the DT front, though, our defense will suffer significantly.

Now, if we add one or two DTs via grad transfers or JUCO ranks, I'll feel much better. Even if they can only provide 10-12 snaps per game, it will be a significant benefit.

There’s always a DT lurking out there in the Mississippi Jucos that we should be able to go after hard. We’ll find nd someone.

Thank god! Bama's DL recruiting can't survive another year with him.

What kind of shite is this? You mean we aren't supposed to talk about issues on the team on a sports message board intended for discussion? Damn it man.

I think R. Davis would be the better fit on the inside

Would miss his coaching but not his recruiting. Anyone that we could realistically snag that is good at both?
