next year will have its own growing pains. We also have to show we can come out of the gates ready to play and not need 4 weeks to figure things out.

Should be another tough schedule next year too. We will get a top tier Big12 team, Houston, and Memphis.....also Yale

We just have different opinions. I just think Ellis is better with his on ball defense just like I think Herb is a better weak side defender.

I know there will be growing pains shoot that's common sense.

Ellis is a more pesky defender. Herb is the lockdown defender. Ellis forces more turnovers by being an annoyance both on and off the ball, but Herb’s opponent never gets by him or gets a good look. I love Ellis, but I wouldn’t confuse a more active/annoying defender as being a better on-ball defender. Ellis gets more steals, but Ellis’s man gets way better looks than Herb’s does.

That isn’t to say Ellis isn’t a fantastic on-ball defender (because he is), it’s just that Herb is probably the best shutdown defender in the NCAAT. It’s the reason why when he goes to the bench due to a stupid foul, it kills the team. I’d say that’s been his only real issue this year: not knowing his own importance to the team.

We’ll probably be starting two freshmen in Davison and Bediako or Tchikou. We will probably be a good bit better in January than we are in November.

That’s not going to happen. If we couldn’t do it this season, then there is no way in hell that we do it next.

I don't know about that . If Oats can continue developing a culture of basketball in Tuscaloosa, I imagine the guys would be fired up ad ready to play from day 1.

In my opinion, it’s going to take at least two years to establish a culture. It started after the Western Kentucky game. That just my opinion though

It's not a matter of culture it's having some freshmen that will have to play major minutes. The more they play the better they will get hopefully.

“Hopefully” is the key word. We all want them to go crazy, but right now, it’s a toss up.

I truly believe that we will have a more athletic team, I just worry about the leadership

Lol who cares if they are freshman. JD will be better on Day 1 as a true freshman than Herb was as a senior.

Lawd, I’ll let someone else handle this. I just can’t do it tonight.

Someone, please.......

We'd be extremely lucky if that's the case. Herb is a literally a semifinalist for NPOY.

JD looks like a fantastic basketball player, but one guy is considered one of the ten best college basketball players in all of the country and the other just finished playing 2A basketball in Alabama.

It sounds stupid, but I’m scared to think of what we’d be without herb’s leadership. Lawd, let’s just win it all this season

As far as a pure basketball player yes, Davison is better, but we probably still make the tourney next season without JD, but there were games this season we looked lost without Herb.

That’s the difference. Hopefully we won’t need that type of player next season, but having that player could be the difference in a sweet sixteen and elite 8

Regarding next year, don't forget that Oats is a genius. He is a prodegy, sort of like a Bobbie Fischer of basketball.

And like Bobbie, he's six or seven moves ahead.

When we found this guy, we found the holy grail. At the risk of being ridiculed again, invoking names like Saban, Bryant, Lombardi, or dare I say, Wooden, while always seemingly rediculous in the early stages, in this this case, is appropriate.

So I'm a true believer. I have no issues with having statue prototypes being schetched out right now. Because they will be needed, assuming we don't screw up and lose this guy.

And I'm serious.

There will be ups and downs. But the trend is up. And will continue that way. Oats is a great coach, and a master psychologist. He is a leading basketball theorist. He made these players something they would never have been without him.

So please, keep this in mind as you envision years to come.

And I would just like to add that Oats is entertaining as hell. He comes over as a cut up. But trust me, he is methodically putting together a top tier program.
